Sigma 70-300 APO Super Macro vs Nikkor 70-300 G

Tonight I put the two to the test to see which lense I liked the best. I had my Dad's Minolta Program 2000 AF ancient flash attached to the camera. To my suprise the thing actually fired when the shutter was released. However that was the limits with this thing. It couldn't do anything fancy like a red-eye reduction pre-flash from what I can tell. However for these photos it seemed to work ok. Now I've taken shots with both lenses and want people to tell me which they think are the Nikkor and which is the Sigma.

The colour and contrast difference between 1A and 1B is considerable.....

Hi Kipper, I'm not sure which lens is which but I prefer 1b and 2b. They seem sharper

There's no consistency. The flower 2A/B - one is at 190mm and f/4.8, the other at 300mm f/5.6. Even if someone could pick out which lens took which, what's the point?

Grrr....thought I killed all the exif data when I resized and resaved the images from PSD to JPG. Guess not .

As for the point of this exercise, I wan't to determine which lense I don't want and sell it. I went outside to take some shots with the Sigma lense that I have. Took some photos and then realised I had picked up the 70-300G, so I went back inside got the Sigma. Took quite a few macro shots and then uploaded to PC and wasn't overly happy with the sharpness in the images. So I went back outside maybe 30minutes later with the 70-300G in hand. At this point the light had dropped dramatically (hence why there is a difference in contrast in 1A and 1B, 2A and 2B were taken within 3-5min of each other). Retook a few photos and went back inside. I'll have to do some more testing but I think the 70-300G provides a nicer shot. However I'm going to play around with them for a while and see if I can find the sweet spot on the Sigma.

I agree Onyx aperture, shutter speed, focal length etc weren't the same. So I'll try that again tomorrow with those things identical and see what happens.

Well if you didn't already know the B series are the Nikkor and I reckon they produce a sharper image.
