Just dreaming... Lens Lust

Postby johndec on Mon Sep 12, 2005 7:56 pm

What lens would you like to see Nikon release? For me it would be a 100-300 or a (dare I dream) 70-300 AF-S VR f4. That would be like a 70-200VR with a built in TC..

What would you like to see? Everyones answer will probably be different depending on their particular photographic fetish...

And I'd like a 10-1000 f1.4 that is the same size as a kit lens... Let's keep it realistic for the sake of the excercise

Ok..

Well seriously then I'd love a 600 f4 AF-S with VR. Or even an 800 f4 AF-S VR (but I'd have to go to the gym for a while first). There is no way I could afford either of them though :-(

Hmm... Good question...

I would like to see a lens similar to the 24-120VR but faster...

Say a 35-120/2.8 VR

You think that's huge, Nikonusers 800 f4 would have a 200mm front element. I'd hate to think how long it would be

I'd just like Nikon to hurry up and release a decent range of VR lenses and update some of their big prime to VR.

300 F4 VR (Canon have these, so should we :)
400 F4 VR

500 F4 VR
600 F4 VR

Decent 2X TC that rivals Canon's 2x II Ext EF

I would love an 85mm f/1.4 AF-S.... I am holding off buying the AF version in the slim hope it might come along in the next couple of years.... (plus, I've expended my lense budget for this FY!!!)

But, even more than that, I *really* want a good, reasonably low-light (ie min f/2.8 ) zoom lense which covers wide angle through to low-mid zoom - ie about 17-100... preferably with VR, too.... :D

I need a single walkabout lense for a very dusty environment.... where changing lenses is really not that desirable.... I would be willing to sacrifice a *little* image quality for that (ie I don't expect 85/1.4-level quality....)

*sigh* One can wish..... :)

80-400 VR/AFS would be my biggie, ie a decently fast focussing lens with 400mm of reach.

That way I wouldnt have had to agonise over the whole 80-400VR vs 70-200+TC debate.

Preferably f/4 (so can put a 1.4 TC on it) but I cant see them doing that and
a) keeping it a reasonably priced
b) not hurting 200-400VR sales
c) keeping it a realitvely easy to walkabout lens

so, for me, Id be happy with f/5.6
Smile; it makes people wonder what you have been up to.

I must agree.

Nikon's wide end needs a little more work.

I want something mega wide and really fast... maybe 14mm 1.8... that won't break the bank. AFS in wides doesn't mean much to me, all I want is a massive aperture and good width.

Birdy, Poon, or anyone, what is the best price for the AF 28mm f1.4?

Yes, It's fast focus and silent, It's AF-S but not 2.8 yet, if it's 2.8 then it's huge, you only see the lens as no attached camera, it'll be bigger than the 28-70 AF-S, btw,

If you can find one new, I don't think you're able to touch it, coz it's too hot and rare. I had to wait for mine nearly a year and got it fresh but since then, I didn't see the second.

How about a 35mm F1.4D. Nice walkaround size lens. Better than the 35mm F2D.

I like the idea of a 24-120 F2.8 VR. As sharp as the 70-200 F2.8 VR, but in a smaller less obvious/scary package. Something that would be good for candid portraits.

35 1.4D... To me it is a little too 'normal'. The same as a 50mm 1.4 on a film camera. Not really worth the premium I'm thinking.

Should dream the 20/1.4 built as same as the 28/1.4 and AF-S
