Newcastle HarbourWent out to enjoy the beautiful day today and take some pics of Newcastle harbour. Herewith my first bunch. Fantastic clouds - gave the CP a hiding!
I'd also be interested in comments on the frame action I've used. Does it add or detract from your viewing experience 70-200 VR + CP @ 80mm 1/125 sec F13 70-200 VR + CP @ 110mm 1/160 sec F8 12-24 DX + CP @ 18mm 1/250 sec F8 12-24 DX + CP @ 24mm 1/320 sec F8 Peter

Great shots as always stubbsy - was any USM applied to the first shot of the wharf and cathedral? If it is, it looks a little oversharpened IMHO.
As for the borders, I'm not really a big fan of them in general, but these ones don't really detract from the image at all, once again IMHO. Chris

The clouds in the Queens wharf pic are astounding. Looks very ominous.
I didn't even notice the borders, a testament to your images i think. Steve.

Nice captures Stubbsy.
The CPL really makes those clouds pop right out at you! My fav would be the last one. I like the composition, colour and level of contrast. The seagull is a nice touch! I find some of the frames people use here to be a little over the top, but yours are subtle and so don't detract from the images.
Stubbsy,
As usual you have identified an opportunity and responded with appropriate finesse and competence. Clouds like that are few and far between and it would be a crying shame not to offer them the praise and thanks that you have here. As for the borders - not just these, but ALL borders - I loathe and detest them. But that's just me, so don't let it bother you unduly!! Cheers, _______________

Very good shots all, Peter. I think my fav is the last one, but it's close. All are quite appealing.

nice photos. My fave's are Nobby's Headland and the Tugboats. Nice colours and I agree with the wonderful compositions....well done. PS...is the horizon in the last one straight ? Wouldn't want all the water to drain out of the photo Dave

Thanks for the feedback one and all.
spartikus - yep overdid the USM meerkat - seagull is why I chose this shot. I took about 5 with the same framing and this really made this one the standout. What impressed me was how clearly it stood out despite it's size in the pic aussieDave - I had to straighten a few of these and thought I'd got this right, but it is a little crooked Peter

Drooling at that lens
Love the clouds in the first pic. very ominous indeed. and that's one heck of a long ship Hassy, Leica, Nikon, iPhone
Come follow the rabbit hole...
Great collection of shots. The clouds are very well captured (put my earlier thread to shame) The borders don't detract from the photos for me, but everyone's different.
Really like the seagull, and until aussiedave mentioned it didn't notice the water draining off the page My favourite is probably the headland shot!
Excellent collection of shots depicting a lovely sunny day about to be gatecrashed by the ominous clouds above.
Why is it in most newcastle shots there are so many huge cumulous clouds? Next time try a CPL filter capture those wicked clouds in full glory!
Wendell We have clouds like that because we get rain here (eg NO WATER RESRICTIONS HERE). Those clouds gave us rain Saturday night and a little last night Re: CPL - used that for these that's why the clouds stand out. Peter

Confirmed, that made we travelled up there nearly on each weekend now! I can FREELY wash my cars, hose the path and enjoying the peaceful of surrounded areas. Birddog114

Why doesn't the New Castle Government build large reservoirs to collect all that abundant water and then sell it to us sydneysiders it's the same story over and over 1 place has an abundance of something that some other place needs. sydney needs more water i am tired of watering the grass with worthless Pepsi, it gets sticky under the sun. Peter you could have fooled me with the usage of the CPL I am too used to seeing CPL affected skies as dark blue not the standard light blue the clouds int he first pic are awesome
Sydney does not lack of water supplies! you perhaps heard about a miliion litres of water wasted thru the leaking pipes or burst up somewhere, that how they made money and earned their seats + spending the money funded by our taxpayers. Bloody politicians! don't you know them? Birddog114

Will you wash mine for free? Stubbsy - nice shots (as usual), and yet more justification for anyone looking at the 12-24 And for those thinking Newcastle has the mortgage on nice clouds, we get good clouds here too - just don't get the rain that supposedly goes with them! *** When getting there is half the fun! ***
Yes, we did have the free wash with the high pressured water after the trip to the Stockton beach last time, 3 x 4WD had been washed + Stubbsy's Madza
Sydney is making clouds and send them up to Newcastle for good rains Birddog114

Thanks for the comments guys. I have some more to post from the day later once more PP is done.
On the topic of water - just thought I'd mention we had about 10 minutes of light rain about 3 pm just so our plants (and grass ) grow nicely. And BTW we are now selling excess water from Newcastle to the Central Coast via an old pipeline that by luck happened to be left from the "old days" from some other use. Peter
