Colour at the festival of windsHi guys,
Haven't posted an image in a while. I went to the Festival of Winds at Bondi yesterday - took loads of shots, got too much sand in my camera!! This is one of a few I have PP'd. Would appreciate the critique and comment. Cheers Matt
Love the differential Focus and the tight crop on the balloon. MAtt did you see any other DSLR user members?
Try a version manipulated in photoshop with a darker contrast.

good use of DOF in this shot. I like the way it makes the boy stand out from the background. It gives the image a sense of depth....nice colours, too Dave

Alpha7, I will upload some shots when I have a chance to work on them.
In the meantime here is another one I have worked on. This guy was one of the flyers and was goggled up and headscarfed up to the max. Cheers Matt
Love the colours and the DOF in the first shot Matt! I missed the FOTW this year unforunately. When I was a lot younger, I was PAID to fly kites on the beach for the day. Not just your ordinary boring kite, but some serious stunt kites...it was so much fun! I still have my stunt kites (about 4) and take them out about 3 times per years, no where near enough! The thrill of being dragged along the ground by the power of the wind and kite together is exhilarating!

A couple of nice shots there Matt... I didn't spot you at Bondi, but that's hardly surprising - the place was crowded... Not sure if you saw my shots here...
More still to come... Cheers, John

The first shot doesn't grab me largely because the OOF part is too dominating the shot (ie there is so damn much of it and it's very colourful). For ME (and not necessarily for YOU) this would work better with a tighter crop on the boy or some PP to dull down the colours in the background. Second shot is a completely different kettle of fish. The composition and the colours give a beautiful simplicity to this image that has great appeal. I'd like to see this one framed - it's that good. Peter
