Winter Travel Advice SoughtI am now less than two weeks away from leaving for a a four week trip to Germany. As this trip will be a bit on the chilly side and my first time in the snow (I expect to meet a brass monkey or two ) I was wondering from those of you unlike me who have gone digital in the snow. In particular any tips & tricks for the inexperienced. So far I have spare D70 Battery and spare portable H/d batteries.
Any advice would be appreciated, in particular any techniques for shooting in the snow, -3ev?. Thanks, Andy
I'm off to France in two weeks myself. My mum is in the UK at the moment and she said the weather is quite mild at the moment
As for what to use in the snow. Perhaps a filter or two to reduce the reflected light. I'm thinking cpl and nd but others might have a better choice. I was just reading that a UV or skylight filter can help cut back the glare aswell.

If you have the second battery, keep it warm inside your jacket's pocket. And a CPL filter is another tool. Birddog114

Set the camera meter to overexpose - when in the Snowy Mountains in August (just after getting my camera) I found I was overexposing by anything up to +2.
Check out http://public.fotki.com/Sheepie/2004_august_snow_trip/ if you want to see some of my feable attempts... The EXIF data is mostly there for checking As Birdie said - use a CP - an absolute MUST for blue sky. *** When getting there is half the fun! ***
I did find the D70 is a little slower to respond in cold environments (sub zero celcius), so dont be alarmed if you noticed similar. Specifically, I found the time between shutter release and the image coming up on the LCD for review (usually imperceptable) to have a slight delay. Shutter lag was not affected.
