Dead pixel in new D2x

Just got back from my trip and have found a dead pixel (glowing blue) in almost every shot in the same location shot with my new D2x (not because of long exposures, due to the long exp. noise reduction, but at, for example 1/320 sec) . It isn't the end of the world, because at most print sizes it wouldn't be noticeable, and at large sizes I would clone it out... but wanted to know if it is an problem that warantee covers.

Other D2x users - have you had this problem? Each of the 5 D70's that I have owned have never had dead pixels unless in long exposures.

It would be nice to not have to worry about it, but I tend to be pretty fussy about things when they are so new.

Heath, just FYI you can setup some raw convertors to mark where the location of the dead pixel is and it will interpolate those dead pixels (eg. choose a color based on the average value of the surrouding pixels).

Thanks Kipper - a VERY useful suggestion that I will definately employ if it is not covered by warantee. Do you know which raw converters?

Yes, it could be, perhaps you abused it at your time in Mauritius.
You knew it was brand new and virgin take it easy mate! I understand how did you treated a virgin
Check to see if it's a dust bunny as well.

If it's then it'll be off to Maxwell and it's covered under Nikon warranty.

Very good thanks mate. Got serious jet lag though. Struggling to get to sleep then stuggling to wake. MRU is 6 hours behind, Switzerland/Italy/France was 8 I think.
Got just under 5000 pictures. The D2x performed very well - a very handy assistant! Mauritus was a bit cold, had an anti-cyclone Paris was rediculous - the best I have ever seen it weatherwise. Funny things kept on happening there (french people behaving unusually) - and I have photographic evidence. Will post the humourous stuff soon.

I must admit that I expected a permanent impairment to be covered. And I am certain, absolutely, that it is in the same location, and not a radioactive piece of dust glowing blue!!!

Do I send it to them or go through you?

Yes, I admit I should have been more gentle on the poor virgin. 5000 shots from just over 3 weeks of ownership - absolute cruelty! Totally ravaged!

Should I send in all my lenses and flash as well? The manual suggests sending in everything when there is a problem. They might check all the equipment as well as clean the dust off the CCD if I am lucky?

If you need to send those in then you make sure yours is attached too, they may see what the damages are between yours and the virgin

Maxwell's sevice is good, although they don't call you when the camera is fixed you have to chase them up, mine took 1 week as they promised when i dropped it off.

The first week i got my d2x i ran this stupid dead pixel finder program i downloaded from the net I used a really dark image and found out i hundreds of dead pixels according to the program, but i think it was a really stupid program that counted all the hot pixels RGB values registering as white.

Can't wait to see the Paris photos as you said Paris was the best you have ever seen it weather wise, you LUCKY DUCK!!!
