Third Party D2x Battery

Folks,

Is the use of third party ripoff EL4 batteries for the D2x recommended?

When I was in HK (collecting the D2x) I went to a third party battery shop and tried three of the EL4 replacements they had and none of them actually caused the lights to come one. The D2x was dead. Is this because the battery needs the circuitry to function?

Digital-Rev-Access (how many IDs does this outfit have?) on eBay has EL4 replacements for $59 plus $12 postage. Sure beats $155 (excellent Birddog price) for the genuine Nikon version?

There're many aftermarket of the non genunie batteries for the Nikon DSLR.

Some goods and some bads.

I only have the original EN-EL4 battery coz I don't want to shoulder the blame of the selling and supplying non genuine battery from users if there's anything happened or caused the dead of the camera bodies, perhaps nothing wrong with the batteries but myself is better protected and covered.

The consumer's laws in this country is very strong and hard to escape.

There are many excellent aftermarket batteries for Canon's available, most of which work slightly better than the original, cheaper, and they don't explode.

I would not even bother looking at the non-genuine batteries to save a few bucks on a 6k+ camera. Heck, I won't even do it with a $2k camera.

Maybe there is nothing wrong with non genuine batteries, heck they could even come from the same factories as the genuine article. There is however differences. Nikon would have laid out a specification for Nikon branded batteries - non genuine would be built to a price tag. You have no idea of what you are buying with non genuine batteries - maybe the same, but probably not. If non genuine batteries leak, explode or otherwise wreck your very expensive camera, then you are on your own. If a Nikon battery does this then you can have the issue addressed by Nikon.

Another issue of non genunie Nikon battery is, sellers won't take any responsibilties of what you're doing and will they accept any liabilities when charging on the charger at home or office, it may explode, burn down your house in the middle of the night or while you away from home or even you're at home, so from there, where and who you are going to sue? your insurance company may investigate but the blame could not point to anywhere or any resellers.
I'm on this earth and on this continent as longer as I remain, I hate to confront with the Office of Fair Trading same as the relationship with my customers, friends, members, I better not talk myself into these unforseen problems.
If it's Nikon genuine batteries and parts then there are more chance to deal with.
Spend 6K on the D2x and hesitate to use a genuine Nikon batteries are very doubtful, but again, everyone has their own choice and taste.
