Carrying tripod

Hi everyone,

With the purchase of new tripod I'm facing some sort of new problem - carrying tripod around. Before I was attaching my Manfrotto 724D to backpack and was quite happy with it. New Gitzo still could be attached also but it's very inconvenient because it's too big. For short trip it's OK to keep it in hands but often, when we're traveling, we're leaving hotel early morning and coming back late night. Question: how are you carrying your versatile, rock solid but inconvenient tripod?

Depend on what size of tripod you have. I know you have the G1325 + G1321, they're damm heavy with the G1321 installed.
I didn't see the use of the G1321 much, so didn't buy it and it's heavy by itself, lot of people have the G1325 but never intend to get the G1321.

Get the original bag from Gitzo for those sexy legs and leveling base at US$150.00 + shipping (I have one of it and it's quite solid, larger, can store both of them), you can afford those, so another US$150.00 is just a piece of cake Go for it Hilop!

Or get a bag for it from Benro's product for AU$110.00

No way you can tie them to your backpack and the RRS BH55 too.

Again, the G1325 is designed for nature or wildlife photographic purposes, it's tough enough to handle those harsh conditions on the 400/500/600 mm once it equipped with the RRS BH55Pro, if you don't have those big zoom or don't think you will get to that closed level, then they're overkilled for just daily or normal use of your photographic hobby.

That made me have several of tripods and heads, I carry with me difference one in difference outing.

I like to also use my wife to carry the heavy things around. This frees your hands and allows you to enjoy your hobby much more.

The Gitzo GIGE13P is a huge bag, I can store my 4 tripods in it (G1325/1227/1027/ new Benro C328), mostly use it for transit or pack it in the car, in real look, it's similar to the bag which you see people, who carries their rifle to the field. Travelling by air, no way you can do hand carry with it, checked-ins luggage is a must. Travelling by car it's so beautiful to keep your tripods safe of scratches, dents etc... travelling by foot, you'll need an assistant

Mikhail - you could always google ”Pelican Tripod Bags” - got mine from Henry’s in Canada through eBay for $50 landed - very nice bag

For carrying around on a shoot I either just carry it on my shoulder with a camera attached or I use a sling type strap. I have a Manfrotto strap for my 458B Neotec and a Gitzo strap for the 1327.

I have been waiting for the Gitzo strap to come available on B&H for about 6 MONTHS!!!

The Gitzo strap is crappy! can only used it for four times and trashed it in the bin.
If you want to protect your investment, only the bag will help.

Actually, I already have a Gitzo bag but don't like to carry it for walking the city.... just want something simple where I can just set the tripod down and get onto the fun part, and thought a strap might fit the bill.... if the Gitzo strap is crap then I might just give some random third-party strap a go... at least I am paying less for crap, then!!

Yes, a new thread in the Bargain section will be posted with all other Benro tripod accessories and replacement or spare parts soon once I finalized the deal with them, damm expensive with the shipping charges by FedEx, shipped by Sea perhaps will be lot cheaper but it takes long time as 3 weeks from China.

Get any strap will do! or a coconut string can be done as well!
I only use the G1325 when I'm near the car otherwise I carry the G1227 or G1027 and now Benro C328.

My thoughts exactly, Birddog!! The 1325 is great but damn heavy!!

I had always intended to get my parter a tripod (ie, a backup, lighter one that I would also have access to!! hehehe ) but had been waiting until I move at the end of the year... so perhaps a Xmas pressie.... something along the lines of the 1227, or perhaps the Benro 328... I shall investigate options forthwith!!

The Benro AC-13 looks promising (although I think they mean "cm" instead of "mm" - a bag 84mm long isn't very useful!).

AC-13 is 84cm, I have one here so measured it up.

I agree with Huyhnie .... Greek wives are much better for carrying things so you can keep your hands free for the important work

And the best part is that they have already been trained by their mothers for all the important aspects of marriage
