To Birdy's & Back! (Dial-up warning)

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

Last Saturday, I figured I'd be bored in the car on the way to Birdy's and Dad was going to pull the top down on the car anyway, so with the camera strapped to my wrist, I held it at the top of the windscreen, the air, the side of the car, etc... and shot blindly.

These are some of the results:

2,3,4 & 7 are my favourites. I love the treatment you have done on 2,3&4 they have a classic ???? <can't find the right words> feel to them. The 3rd one would make a brilliant album cover.

Excellent work Leigh

cheers,
Craig

Interesting shots with #9 being a real 'bummer' of a shot.

Bud

The first image acts as a nice intro your storytelling, it's ordinariness complements the 2nd image which i love, it tells the story of two dimensions, the artist on the ground looking up towards the vast expanse of the sky. What is really intelligent about this image is that the spatial relationship between you and the helicopter is only determined by your accidental effort to frame the lamp post, a comendable unconscious visual trick. The perspective further dramatizes the scene with the skewed tree and lamp post on either end of the compositon, which inadvertantly brings the viewer in for closer scrutiny of the scene, it is only at this point that the full majesty of the sun, so skillfully captured with flare acts as a central focus point, contributing to the global economy of elements that work so delightfully in this arbitrary but most wonderous capture.

As a set i like 2, 3 and 4. Photograph 3 reminds me of a post nuclear scene on highway 69 travelling into the great dessolate plains under a unforgiving sun, possibly on the way to vegas or Area 51.

Gary looks great in image 4 there is something bewildering and intruiging about the glance between Gary, the bystander on the street and the other elements in the composition.

The 2nd Last shot has merit too I like the way you have captured the rear of the trailer, not many dare to be innovative enough to see the fascination in ordinary things. The only thing that bothers me is the number plate - it's off centre.

Really like the treatment of 2,3 and 4.

The second last shot ... well  Mind you the guy on the far right seems to be taking it just a bit too far ...

Canon 20D and a bunch of lovely L glass and a 580EX. Benro tripod. Manfrotto monopod. Lowepro and Crumpler bags. And a pair of Sigma teleconverters, and some Kenko tubes.

Wendell
I may be a slow learner, but you don't need to tell me something twice to make it sink in

Leigh
There is either something seriously wrong here. I like #3 and I like #4.

Leigh & Wendell
What's even more wrong is I had the same thoughts as Wendell about both images.

Wendell (again)
Thanks for the critique on shots like this. Definitely not normally my cup of tea, but I usually find your analysis worth the visit.

Cheers to both the artist and the appraiser.

Edit: Just to disprove my comment above about not being a slow learner, I've only just noticed the moon(s) in the trailer shot

Interesting collection of shots there Leigh!

All the other commentators have said what I would have said except

"I'm glad I don't have to clean the back window of that bus!!"

Pass the disinfectant please :!:

An interesting collection that is so Leigh! :)

The only ones I don't care for are #7 and #8, while #2, #3 and #9 are faves.

I hope your regular trip to Birdy's isn't your only photography indulgence, it would be a shame to have all that imagination just festering away.

3 is a classic, not sure why but it is very good IMHO.
