Nikkor 50 1.4 SDoes anyone know much about the above lens.
My Stepdad is looking to buy a D70s and he wants to know how it will work. I would expect no metering and definately no AF (manual focus lens) HB

What? 50/1.4 S, never heard of it! or the AI-S? Birddog114

He probably means the AI-S Birdie.
I wonder what the optical quality is like on the old girl! Birdie 10K posts are definately within your reach now. Then what? HB
The AI-S will work on the D70 but if he has a good eyesight then it's OK otherwise he will suffer. Birddog114

I have one of these - and use it on the D70 now and again. It makes an excellent portrait lens, I think the optical quality is pretty good. Mine is about a 1987 vintage, made in Japan, and metal construction. I understand the current model plastic bodied AF lens is the same optical design. The big aperture makes focussing a bit easier with the D70's rather dim finder!
Cheers What's another word for "thesaurus"?
Heath, tell him to be very very very careful when mounting. The very old F mounts don't fit. Get the serial number and I can probably work out if it will fit. My guess is not.

Thanks all. Glen, will let you know... HB
Stuart,
It is probably this lens which is often referred to as the S model (for obvious reasons). This lens is not suitable to go on a DSLR, damage will result. mental note, after seeing this image, too many halogens in the office to take photos with http://wolfeyes.com.au Tactical Torches - Tactical Flashlights Police torch rechargeable torch military torch police military HID surefire flashlight LED torch tactical torch rechargeable wolf eyes flashlight surefire torch wolf eyes tactical torchpolice torch

Chris, my lenses get a suntan regularly, no fungus on them Might be a little bit of fungus on the old owner though
