Alpha, he looks like he's inside an enclosure. You can see the enclosure grid in the background.

Ok, I assumed that must of been the case as I couldn't notice any wire, cage or glass between you and the bird... so you had to be in there or a wiz and PP. :)

Awesome Owl pic Arthur. I have never seen an owl so close up and in such detail. What camera are you using these days?

Very difficult subject, exposure-wise, so it's not surprising that you have some blown highlights.
Strangely enough, perhaps fill-flash could have helped provide some more detail in the black eye area at an exposure value that wouldn't have burned out.

Thanks for all the kind comments. The background and exposure can be better.

I am using my office's G6, 20d and kit lens.

That is an awesome shot Arthur. As Steve said, I too haven't seen such a close, detailed image of these wonderful birds before.

Perhaps you could have taken two shots, one exposed for the shadows and the other for the highlights, then merged the two as a composite.

A nice frame filling shot Arthur. I agee with cricketfan a little delicate application of fill flash may have made the difference. Still a spectacular shot.

Nice one Arthur, I would have liked to have seen a little more of the owls face if it were possible.

Guys he probably couldn't use fill in flash 'cos I bought his beamer
