Nikon 28-200 help !I have been offered a Nikon 28-200 lens and have no idea if I should purchase it or not the chap that has it is asking $250 ono ($200) .Please help as I have never had any intension to own this lens and I am not shore of it's qualities ,the lens is 4 years old as new.
Loz, don't have one, but from the reviews it is an average lens with huge range, not dissimilar to the 70-300. That said I have seen good shots from it, just like the 70-300. Great range for travelling, my only thought is if you buy it will you say, "I am going to Kathmandu, wont be going again so want good shots, will take my 50 1.8 or 17-55 2.8 instead". If you have other choices it may turn out to be the ugly stepsister and never go to the ball

Thank You
I read a review where this lens was tested against similar zoom lengths from Tamron, Sigma and Canon and this came out on top.
Seems to be a very good lens for travelling, like Glen said. For the price I would say it's not bad, but it depends on whether you think you will use it I guess. Matt
There are several Nikkor lens under this banner. To which particular lens are you referring?

Loz I own an Nikkor 80- 200 4.5-5.6 which I took on my Kimberley trip earlier in the year.
Whilst I now also own a 70-200VR I think that for what I did the slower lens was perfect. It is physically much smaller that the VR and is also very light, in fact a perfect travelling light lens. It also takes very sharp images. Don't be sucked in by the need for speed, unless of course you do "The good thing about meditation is that it makes doing nothing respectable"
