I've been practising my photoshop techniques, and thought I'd post this from April, taken with the Kit lens on 18mm. The adjustments I made were curves for colour, shadows and highlights to bring out the sky, contrast and sharpening. This is the first image I changed the colour profile to sRGB before saving for the web....and the 'muddiness'has vanished! 8)

I may have overdone the colours and contrast a little...but doesn't look too bad on my LCD. Comments welcome...it's the only way to learn! (just don't forget I'm still relatively new!!)

Great shot and as NJ said the stairs lead you down into the shot.

It's a great spot isn't it Jane. I was there on Saturday minus the camera and want to get back there early one morning to capture it in good light. Bushrangers Bay is another good spot aswell for taking photos. The cliff face leading towards Bushrangers Bay is what I want to capture but it'd have to be really warm light and the type of clouds you've got or foggy and wet looking.

have a look at cropping at the post on the left and across the landing at the bottom so the stairs are not as dominate, this will bring up the ocean and the stairs will still lead you into the pix, rather than being the pix..........your pp looks good maybe try a little more contrast......

I really like this shot - it vaguely reminds me of one I took near Wollongong last year. I especially like the contrasting colours - the warm feel of the brown stairs against the cooler colours of the sky and sea. And as the others have mentioned, the stairs leading you into the rest of the picture is very well done.

Very interesting shot. I first thought it was the stairs at Byron Bay lighthouse! Looks similar.

I agree with the suggestion that a crop on the left may strengthen the image even more, but its still a very nice image.

Canon 20D and a bunch of lovely L glass and a 580EX. Benro tripod. Manfrotto monopod. Lowepro and Crumpler bags. And a pair of Sigma teleconverters, and some Kenko tubes.

Love the colours but agreed that the contrast has been bumped up too much. But then again, I like the graininess of it.

I love this shot. It really gives an impression of being there. The colours in the sky are superb. Great stuff Jane.

Thankyou everyone for your wonderful comments!

NJ: Thanks! I think I went a little overboard with the sea! normally with a sky that grey, the sea would be too!

Kipper: Thanks, yes it is a great spot! I'll have to go back without the kids next time....I haven't been to Bushrangers Bay yet, no doubt I will!

Jethro: Thanks, I actually only cropped a slight bit off the top as I thought there was a little too much sky. Still learning PP, but I'll get there!

BP: Thanks, I might try that crop, but I thought I'd actually overdone the contrast a tad! The rocks in the ocean don't look quite right!

Nicole: Thanks, yes, Cape Shank is a beautiful place. Next time without kids!

Frankenstein: Thanks! I'm slowly getting the hang of adjusting the colours. The sea isn't actually that blue though!

DionM; Thanks! I haven't been to Byron Bay, would like to one day! I might try the crop......

Piro: Thanks, yes the contrast is a bit too much. It needs to be a little smoother...you live and learn, as they say!

Slider: Thankyou, it is a beautiful place! The sky was brought out quite a lot using shadows/highlights.....I've just discovered it!

Hey stormygirl. This is a nice image and you've done well with the colour in it. One thing that I noticed is that the closest part of the railing is out of focus, which to me seems a little odd because everything else is so sharp. The only way to avoid this is to focus using the hyperfocal thingo, and make sure you're not too close to the railing. Other than that I think it's a top image.

Cheers,
Owen.

Owen: Thanks for the tip! I'm not sure what I focused on or what f stop I used, but I do remember being up close and personal with the railing! Next time I'll use the hyperfocal thingo

Mic: Thanks Mic, yes it is a long way down!
