Any comments on Photography travel/tours ???

Postby Spooky on Wed Sep 28, 2005 7:57 pm

Hello all

I am looking at going on a travel photography tour for my next holiday
primarily for wildlife/nature photography. I must say I have been
inspired by a couple of blogs on US sites like this one http://www.nwpphotoforum.com/ubbthreads ... _intro.php
that have outlined some photo tours and peoples experiences.

I am keen to increase my photographic skills and would like to go on the
sort of tour where you have a guide who is there not only to pass on
knowledge about the area and help you find photographic opportunities
but also teach photographic techniques and share their photography
knowledge. As a student I can then apply what I learn on the spot under
their guidance. Obviously there is the opportunity to learn from other
knowledgeable photographers in the group as well.

In terms of venue I would like to go somewhere with interesting
photographic opportunities in the way of wildlife and landscapes. I
actually harbour a desire to go to Antarctica but am considering other
venues as well.

Anyway I was wondering if anyone has been on tours like this to
locations within Australia or overseas and if anyone has any
recommendations of how/where/who I would approach to get into something
like this.

It has also just occurred to me that if there was interest and trips
were organised and details advised sufficiently in advance perhaps a
group of forum members could arrange something through a tour operator.

Any thoughts or experiences appreciated.

Hi Spooky,

Have a look at the Nikonians forums, they seem to organise a number of tours.

http://www.nikonians.org/

They have a tour advertised in their newsletter, going to Patagonia, but it is not on their workshop site, must be full.

Also, in Sydney, GalleryXposure runs a short course(one evening) on Nature and wildlife photography. I haven't been, but was thinking of giving it a tryout.

EDIT: noticed you were in Brisbane, probably not any good to you :(

Let me know what you find out.

A dslusers.com photography tour could be interesting. :)

Hi.

There's a guy who posts on my site named Andrew, and he has a tour site at:

So check that out and see if it's of interest to you.

Cheers,

There is a very well known guy on the Sunshine Coast who does tours locally and overseas (I bought a lens from him). His name is Darren Leal, a google search should reveal his website.

Hi Spooky,

was on the John Shaw website and found that he runs photography tours, even has one for the end of next year in Australia. Have a look at:

and also:
