Sydney "Webcam"

A found this link in a magazine and thought it was worth sharing... I don't think that it's been posted before...

Sydney Pro-Photographer Paul Murphy has set up a new project with the aim of publishing one picture from Sydney every day. This project is separate and very different to his professional work... Contrary to the title, all images seem to be taken with a Canon 1D MkII.

I found some of his views of Sydney quite inspiring and will be subscribing to his RSS feed so that I am informed of his new images... One of his images was taken about 500m from my house and is a great composition I would never have thought of....

There are some great shots of above sydney and the south coast. type in a postcode in the area provided. He also borrowed my 70-200 and took it up about a month ago, got some great shots of the harbour bridge.

Now that I know about this forum and having had a look around at some of the great things here (not to mention some terrific photo galleries) I will have to get myself more involved.

The whole point of my website was to get myself back to basics with photography. Going out and taking photographs of everyday scenes and trying to see things from a slightly different perspective. Trying to come up with a fresh image every day is certainly a challenge, but it keeps the creative juices flowing.

I will check out your meeting info and try to get along to one of the outings. They sound like fun.

Congrats on the great work on your site... You certainly get around Sydney a lot...
Do you actually take a new photo every day?? or are there days when you select one from your collection... Just curious...

Paul, thanks for putting it together.

I live in Surry Hills and I was amazed that some of the shots you took were exactly the same shots that I had taken myself. Sophia Lane, the back garage made out of iron roofing, the dental hospital, Commonwealth St. What really inspired me about your photography was your composition and use of B&W to enhance what cold be a pretty ordinary street scene. Now I can't wait to have another go at street photography myself.

For those of you that want to do a bit of a walk around shoot I would encourage you to take a spin around Surry Hills between Crown Street and Central Station. Lots of interesting buildings and people to stumble across.

Leek: I try to shoot a new image each day, but some days it's just not possibile, so yes I do have a small collection of images that I dip into for those days. When I get a few minutes free I like to walk around an area and just shoot away. Most of the time I'm just on my way somewhere and of course I always have my camera with me and am on the look out for something interesting.

ajo43: Surry Hills is one of my favourite places to hang out and it seems to be full of interesting street scenes just waiting to be captured. I also find Newtown a great place for street photography.

In setting up this site I decided to focus on documenting various places in Sydney. Rather than just post a standard tourist style image I do try to find little details or different perspectives of typical scenes that viewers may not have previously noticed. It's not as easy as I thought to come up with "fresh, different" images all the time, but that's the challenge I set myself. Basically I am just trying to improve my photography and force myself to think more creatively about everyday things.
