Long exposure D2xThis shot was taken with long exposure noise reduction on. I think it does pretty well. ISO 100, 30 sec exposure. Birdie, Poon, or all: what is a good price to pay for the cable release so I can do longer than 30 sec exp?
I can't believe that I got the urge to do a technical test. I am not usually this technical by nature. Please excuse the dark shape in the lower left hand corner. Make sure that friends stay out of the frame . entire shot showing very loosely where 100% crops came from: crop from middle: crop from middle sharpened: crop from noise prone dark sky (note: monochromatic, and worst case scenario): HB
Interesting Heath, is this an example of where mps count?

very nice Heath! I think it is a case where good CMOS sensor technology helps

perhaps. but if noise reduction (dark frame subtraction) is turned off, the picture is literally littered with hot pixels EVERYWHERE. I think that CCD's are far less prone to this, from my experience with the D70. CMOS seems to definately need noise reduction, while CCD ...a more expensive technology from what I have heard... is better is this regard HB
Interesting, but it makes sense.. Individual sites on a CMOS sensor are solid state while CCD uses a well to trap charges formed from photon (light) impacts..

Yes, I was just thinking that! ....NOT! just a little too technical for us poor mortals Thanks for this Heath - interesting to see, although I'd like to see same without the in-camera NR. *** When getting there is half the fun! ***
