If that's new and with Maxwell warranty then it's good, but I doubt it very much!
Though, Maxwell in new stock is never ever under AU$2400.00

If it's real then grab it! no need to think about!

If you want to support your local shop, nothing wrong with that, that is a good price. Ted's Camera sells it for $2600, RRP by Maxwell $2950, for best price see bargains.

Have fun,

Zeeke: Dont mean to be rude but why bother with the 80-400 VR???

It is not AF-S and is not known as being the best glass...

I would prefer a Sigma 70-200/2.8 +1.4 TC over the Nikon... yes you loose VR but with the change you can buy some legs and IMHO you get a sharper lens...

Or save your pennies (and bide your time) for the 70-200/2.8VR Nikkor...

Tim,
I got the 70-200 and sometimes I wish I had the 80-400 for reach and versatility. We all have seen very good pictures taken with the 80-400. If that's what you want, get it!
Cheers,

Everyone is always in debt.

Its just the depth that varies. 8)

Canon 20D and a bunch of lovely L glass and a 580EX. Benro tripod. Manfrotto monopod. Lowepro and Crumpler bags. And a pair of Sigma teleconverters, and some Kenko tubes.

Tim, its great value at most prices. The 'normal lens' as its so unexotically know by, has some of the sharpest optics available to nikon users. Funnily enough, the 1.8 has a even better MTF rating (sharper) and its cheaper.

The 1.4 does have a extra 1/2 stop of speed on it if you really need handheld in low natural light exposures. Both lenses are cool.

I think you'll be happy with the results if you looking to do portraits, (due to the sensor 1.5 factor, its = 75mm), and youll find the 1.8 a very usable macro lens when used with either a reversing ring, bellows or closeup filters.

For 400$   & $$$ still in your pocket !

Actually, i think youd do well to buy this type of lens second hand - as its such a basic contruction theres not much that can go wrong with them - and they come up regularily on ebay too.
