This site is not a showcase for photographty, its an overt exercise in graphic design. Any serious potential client would get bored with it after trying to look at a few images.

I have to agree. Navigation is awkward, having to use the mouse to unwipe the flashy drawings that overlay the pic and the boring repetitive music meant I looked at three pics & quit. THis is a classic case of form defating function. BTW - no offense to you olrac. It was an interesting exercise in what can be done using Flash

Designing a good website is a difficult task... I have been wondering how I am going to rebuild mine at the moment, the advantage in using Flash is that people cannot grab images from your site ... it does take a bit to learn though. Good design is everything!

Hi Kelly,

You have some interesting work on your website although I would seriously reconsider rewriting the intro ... I discovered I was newly engaged when I started reading it. More importantly though, it mentioned you were professionally trained... most of the students who graduate from photography colleges these days consider themselves to have been professionally trained, most of them never get work though... it is no longer a recommendation of quality.

Have a talk to your colleagues in the AIPP and get there advice. Chances are some of them can give you a few pointers on how to sharpen it up. I would also look at amending the font that you use and probably making that front page image a little larger.... remember, you are promoting photography!

Out of curiousity, did you go through to Brisbane for the APPAs?

Something to consider is that not every PC has the flash plugin, i.e People's work PC's will be restricted on the downloads and applications they can execute.
Sometimes the KISS principle works best.

Paul, I dont think Flash is the concern that it used to be... most browsers can cope with it now... one lesson I have discovered though is that if you use flash on the front page you may not get picked up on the search spiders. This is a problem I had with my other website... it is on my list of things to revisit and rectify.

I would have to say that I'm not overly keen on the site either. The flash work is ok, but the navigation is hideous for a photography site. I agree that flash is a pretty cool medium for a photography site, but I much prefer standards compliant well designed CSS sites to flash.

Your right Antsl my mistake, What I actually meant was that the quicktime/(Insert generic media player) is not always loaded into everyones's PC, thats when then problems arise.
I'm still having problems with the original site listed on this thread, all I get is this dumb small picture of a film strip, no help button and right clicking it does nothing!

I'd have to say I thought that it wasn't working on my browser either until I realized that this was how it was supposed to be...definitly wasn't going for simple that's for sure. The key is to have a simple site that isn't droning or boring. Easily said, not easily done.
