WOO HOO!!!!

Postby Raskill on Tue Oct 11, 2005 4:06 pm

After the feedback from you guys in relation to my Mt Panorama pics I decided to go out on a limb and approach a local newspaper to endorse me as a photographer for the up coming Australian Rally Championship round at Bathurst.

I spoke with the editor, explained I was willing to let them use my images for free, but I retain copyright, if they were willing to endorse me. The editor agreed to this, and has aksed me to forward some of my V8 pics for them to use this in this weeks auto section.

I won't be giving my pics away for free always, but figure I need to get 'known' first.

Happy days, I'm feeling chuffed.

Thanks folks, couldn't have done it without you!

that's the way
corner the market and sell yourself for free just to get your foot in the door, then you can charge.

sometimes this does not work and people just take advantage of you but hey win or loose your still in the game and that's what's important.

Good onya Raskill, thats good to hear mate and hope it all goes well for you. I supply the local paper here with all motorsport images each week in the motorsport section, they stingy wont pay anything but i dont mind as the way i look at later i might need my back scratched and 1 would hope they would do it. The way i look at it as well as if i dont there will be nothing for the write up unless one of there young jouno's is out and about.

Just any sales are directed to me so i dont mind, it helps promote the sport and well i take so many. So mate well done, like they say get known and even if it's a freebie later on can help you.
Cheers
John

Raskill,

Congrats. Once you have mass media published work that can be referenced for sports photography it makes getting a press pass for other events far far easier.

From what I've seen for the major types of sporting events you need either a media outlet affiliation or the ability to demonstrate freelance + previously published work to reference.

Which paper - Western Advocate?

Keep up the good work - you had some really good shots on the weekend.
