Pano heads?Hello all...
I would like to take better panoramas (my current efforts suck) and so am considering buying/making a pano head. So - anyone using a homemade job successfully? My budget might stretch to a King Pano model. Compared to other commercially available models, the price seems attractive. It has to be light/compact enough for multi-day bushwalking. Any advice or wisdom would be appreciated.... Cheers Gecko Nikon D70, SB600, Benbo Trekker, LSII, KingPano and a lot to learn!
For easy, reliable results, I'd just go with a commercial head, and the KingPano (from a look on their site and its construction - not actual handling) looks quite decent.
Home made is much less flexible and much more fiddly. - Nick

HI Pippin, noticed your add for the cottages at the bottom of your sig. Assume you are associated with them, you might like to offer to do some photography for them, not one photo of the cottages on their website.

You're evil I wish I could get something like that for NZ, but can but dream I'll have to make sure I get a look at them Birdy, but will leave the money card at home! *** When getting there is half the fun! ***
They are my parents new business. Just built the website, and haven't had a chance to go up there to take some photos. This weekend, hopefully the weather will be good, and I can build up a gallery. The photos on the side contain a few shots, but the day was too bright and contrasty (and my kits lens was a bit stuffed). - Nick

Tell your parent invest into a Nikkor 17-55Dx and you'll do free advertising for them in life Birddog114

G'day Gecko,
Thanks for the link. I too am interested in getting some type of pano head as I'm a sucker for a nice pano, will check it out... Seems competitive for pricing and sturdy etc... Thanks... Aka Andrew
Haha, I wish Birddy. Though the Sigma 70-200 is only ~$1k. "I need it to take bird photos then you'll get hundreds of bookings." Don't think it would work unfortunately. - Nick

Great Mudder!
I have been seriously toying with the idea of getting a King Pano. $$$ are a bit tight at the moment, but might ask santa... I will be very interested to hear your feedback on the new toy (and how long it takes to get to you...) Cheers Gecko Nikon D70, SB600, Benbo Trekker, LSII, KingPano and a lot to learn!
gecko,
With my experiences, if supplier ship your order by USPS/ Global Air Express, it will take about 5 working days to reach you from the States. Birddog114

When I emailed the guy who makes them, he indicated to me that there would be a few weeks wait while he retooled his workshop (or something like this). As a result, I have not been in a hurry to order....

On their website now, this Panoking is in stock and ready to ship, I think they have done and finished their tooling. Birddog114
