Palm Cove Panorama

Wasn't sure whether to tap into the existing thread on Pano Factory. Interesting. Here is my first attempt on panoramas using CS2 photomerge. Tripod mounted using kit lens. No intentional consideration of nodal point just guesstimated. Whilst reasonably happy with outcome a nice White umbrella with the cliched gorgeous model with barely a hint of a white swim suit, or better still a thong, staring longingly into the stinger infested blue waters of the north in the blank space to the left on the shoreline would have added some balance and need i say interest!
I apologise to the ladies of the forum for my typical male attitude, i am a little embarrassed. Ok! I'm over it now.

Any comments/critique gratefully accepted.

I think you have done very well.
The exposure is great. (you didn't do a great deal of PP ???)
I also like the composition und the DOF with the front and the mountains in the back is great.

Thanks CD I actually did a little manual aligning to get the tree joins and some parts of the horizon right and a little hue and saturation to bring up the colours and gentle 's' curve to give it a little 'pop'. Oh a carefull going through at 100% to check for dust bunnies etc.
Pleased you liked it. This forum has a habit of starting new thoughts and creative juices flowing.

Really has that tropical island feel, Ahhh, I can just about taste the pinacolada (how the heck do you spell that!)... Dunno if it's just me but there seem to be just a few little "blue artefacts" or remnants over on the palm trunks on the right? Distant clouds would not move around much while you're taking your shots too, which I assume would help?

Looks great, exposure seems spot-on and great colour depth (I also would have liked to see your suggested subject for attention too... Ahhh, wrong brain thinking me thinks... Us guys are lucky, God gave us two brains but unfortunately only enough blood to run one at a time OK, my turn to apologise

And here is where Photoshop shows its power. There is no way, soft like PanoxxxWiz will match such an image, especially with even small wind. Photoshop, layers and mask do job without marks.

You're most likely right Mudder. I suppose a little jpeg artefacts in their too. Now that i'm interested i'll have to get a little formal with this nodal plate for the tripod.

How did you find the place deserted?

I timed it and used the alone/bymyself tool for a lady and her dog walking along the beach before the trees and one guy staring into space at the end of the path in the distance the rest the palm trees took care of, and of course i shall not underplay the ol' luck factor.

Arrg Shooter I always loved Palm Cove mainly because it showed that developement did not have to be ugly, and that it could blend in.

It's the memories triggered rather than the place itself that I have a problem with - just a personal whim.

But you are absolutely right: it is amazing what a substantial bounty on trees disturbed can achieve.

Shame - all to common in the modelling industry I would expect? Megan Gale will always be different in my book though

I dream of those sort of memories sheetshooter! The closest i came to that was doing a favour (Ha! ) for a surf girl entrant portfolio unfortunately I, stupidly, asked my wife who modelled quite a bit to get some poses going for me (and hold the odd reflector). True to the descriptor, at least in cognitive ability (an N.F.I. candidate to be sure- No F..Idea), I arranged to meet her at 6:30am (trying to be a little considerate) to get the best light. She turned up at 8:40am Complaining about the heavy night before blood shot eyes and blaring sunlight. Couldn't stop her squinting, so dark sun glasses,all she had, and more careful location selection thn i had wanted and a hell of a lot more people at Palm Cove to navigate around, but it worked ok. Oh, there was no such hint of a swimsuit indeed it was, to my way of thinking anyway, a gross overstatement of a swimsuit (then again club colours club togs never been something to inspire the testosterone as much as the o'l 'hint' of one.

Fortunately it came out all right. Mind you with a bit of cooperation from the model could have been much better. That's the life of a wanna be swimsuit photographer.

There are always exceptions to the rule but invariably these people choose to be eye-candy because they don't want the discipline or duties of a 'PROPER JOB'.

Not far from Palm Cove I recall an incident at Ellis Beach with a girl who had won one of our competitions. In mid-winter she had been flown (WE had been flown) to Cairns for a week to shoot her "Winner's Spread". Standing on the shoreline at sunset she snarled, "How 'effed' is this?" I reminded her that she was being paid the highest fee for a shoot like this at the time. She replied, "You can shove your $25,000.00 - I hate this."

What can a gentleman like myself do but comply with the wishes of a young lady in distress? We sacked her, put her on a plane back to the smoke, ridded her of her title and prize money, and brought up another somewhat more amenable broad.

You do what you have to do sheetshooter. That took 'balls'. Probably something of which the first model thought she had an abundance. Boy did she miscalculate!
Rough justice perhaps, na I don't think so! As we say on this site when someone receives something they have merited - well deserved!!
