Maxwells seem to be of the attitude that they'll fix this issue under warranty if it's a known issue. This is good, and I think we need to be prepared to help them if necessary. What I would like to have in this thread is for members who have been affected by this issue - and only those affected members - to just note that they were affected by it, and how the issue was addressed. No other comments are necessary - indeed, I'll probably delete them. I just want to build up a sampling of affected users that might be able to be used to demonstrate - if required - the extent of the problem. For the record, my D70 has not (as yet) been affected by this issue. Thanx y'all. g.

Re: BGLOD
Tamara, Sorry to hear the problem, but at least you have Photocontinental Extended warranty cover. Can you clarify/ verify, why should they need 3-4 weeks that your camera can be assessed under extended warranty? If you need any helps from me to talk to them, pls. let me know by PM. Birddog114

Tamara, sorry to hear of your trouble, it is a pity they are going to take so long.

Re: Green blinker of bloody death
and I have read on other forums that Nikon say they do not have a problem. I come across 1-2 BGLOD every day spread across 4 forums. Nikon in USA and Nikon in Singapore are doing out of warranty repairs free of charge, so what are they doing for D70 camera users in Australia ????....... maybe we should all get together and have a word or 2 with Maxwells about the BGLOD. Cheers ....bp....

Re: Green blinker of bloody death
What a bummer... and you just got a new toy (tripod) to play with. If I'm alone in a forest and my wife is not around to hear what I say, am I still wrong ??
I've experienced it twice on a D70 body purchased Sydney, 17th March 2004. As most people have found, it hasn't been to do with mistreatment / overuse, or abuse. The silly things just fail....
1/ - 07/06/05 replaced 'Light Measuring FPC unit' - out of warranty, but repaired at the full expense of Maxwells. 2/ - 28/07/05 replaced 'Power Dial' - out of warranty, but repaired at the full expense of Maxwells. Both times the only symptom was 'BGLoD', but as can be seen, the BGLoD symptom can possibly mean many things. Most likely it's just the cameras way of saying 'I'm really f$%#@ing sick' - take me in for repairs ! Cheers Justin
Thaddeus, Good news ! Disappointing that you have to wait, but at least it won't make you out of pocket. Cheers Justin
Thaddeus,
They are fixing it without charge? Don't let them get away with that! Insist on paying full price and demonstrate to Maxwells that we forum members are an independent lot! We are all with you, brother! Seriously though....very good news. Regards

I've just been cursed by the dreaded BGLOD. My camera was bought in Australia in April 2004.
Anderson Camera Repairs (local Maxell repairer) are quoting a 10-day turnaround to fix. I think I'll mention to them that the turnaround time in Sydderney is only 1 day. TFF (Trevor)

I finally retrieved my camera on Thursday. It took 9 working days.
However, the BGLOD was fixed under warranty, even though my camera is 6 months out of warranty, so that's a good thing. TFF (Trevor)

Just under 5k. But my camera was purchased around March/April 2004, which appears to be the most common denominator.
Actually, now that I look at the Nikon guarantee docket, the purchase date was 01/04/2004. Perhaps that was the problem. TFF (Trevor)

Yes, but not much fun just looking at it! I needed a camera to put on the end of it. (Very pleased with it, BTW - thanks) TFF (Trevor)

Picked up my D70 from Andersons today, a 10 day turn around and all functions seem to be OK. They replaced metering FCB, recalibrate exposure, clean and test
I will give it a workout in the next day or two........ Edit: NO CHARGE. CAMERA PURCHASED IN MARCH 04 Cheers ....bp....

Rob, Hop onto a flight with Loraine to Sydney for a D2x Mass & prayer at early hour of one Saturday Mini meet and you'll be coming home with the big smiles on your face. Birddog114

birdy I HAVE BEEN PRAYING !!!!
It's been a month since I put my D70 in for BGLOD service so I thought I'd give them a ring. Apparently they are still waiting on the Main PCB part. They gave a revised estimate of two weeks, which is uncannily like the original estimate of two weeks.
Thaddeus, very sorry to hear of that delay They didn't offer to lend you a D2X during that period?

thaddeus, Hope you will get it back soon and make it working harder after 1.5 month of its holiday. Make sure it's working while you're there or a demand of the replacement with the new D200. Birddog114

This has now happened to my D70. Will be contacting maxwell today and will update. Camera purchased June 2004.

Mine was purchased in April '04, and this morning the metering was going all over the place.
Looks as if it's about to hit BGLOD too. Thaddeus, is the left hand colum units of measure? If so, that's 16 units of 1/4 hour in labour - four hours! g.

I would have thought that if the camera goes whilst still under warranty it would make economic sense just to replace the camera instead of repairing it

Well it makes me wonder if Maxwell are fixing this on camera's out of warranty, is it worth having extended warranty? I brought mine 1-12-04 and am thinking should get it incase this happens before it runs out.

Update: I have just dropped the camera off to Anderson's in Brisbane, and I must say that they were extremely helpful. They have the necessary parts in stock and will have the camera back to me by Friday at the latest. Two thumbs up for their customer service.
In regards to whether they will honour lapsed warranty or not will depend if the problem is related to the manufacturing fault or if it is related to something else. Will update accordingly. cheers http://www.markcrossphotography.com - A camera, glass, and some light.
Mine will be taking a trip to Lidcombe tomorrow.
I was hoping to get in in today, but I've been stuck in all day waiting for a courier delivery. As luck (and Murphy) would have it, that didn't arrive until almost 5 pm. g.

Update: Anderson's have replaced various components inside the camera and it is now ready to be picked up. All work covered at no cost even though the warranty had expired.
Will update tomorrow when I pick her up and give her a quick workout. At this stage I am very impressed with the customer service from both Nikon and Anderson's. cheers http://www.markcrossphotography.com - A camera, glass, and some light.
Final update:
Job report: Dismantle. Replace metering FPC. Recalibrate exposure. Clean CCD. Test. I have taken her out this morning for a very solid workout and no problems at this stage. I'm back on the run cheers http://www.markcrossphotography.com - A camera, glass, and some light.
Mine started playing up on the weekend, I removed the CF card from slot and the camera displayed an erroneous shot count indicator instead of the expected '-E-'.
But earlier today I had an "Oh phuck" moment - slipped in a CF card, to be greeted by blink-blink-blink. Removal and reinsertion of battery, same with CF card, mount/dismount lens and repeat cycle several times, somehow along the way it reverted back to normal. I have a shoot tomorrow - a corporate event; I'm about to soil myself as I'm expecting Murphy's law to kick in once again (the previous D70 failing was during my sister's wedding). Looks like mine will be back to Maxwells again very soon.
<sigh> Murphy is a bitch. The inevitable has happened, and this time it's permanent. But what a classically bad moment to fail me...
Off to Maxwells again for my D70 - twice in 6 months. It probably enjoys its vacation there so much it had to return.
Sorry to hear that Onyx. Can you arrange for a spare camera to cover you for the event?
All the best, Owen.
