Using multiple flashes

Postby Spooky on Sun Oct 30, 2005 1:03 pm

I am just seeking confirmation of my understanding of this.

I have a D70 an SB800 and an SB600.

If I mount the SB800 on the D70 and set the SB800 to master and the SB600 to remote I can control the flash level of each of the flashes. I leave the D70 in TTL (not Commander) mode.

I have tried and this seems to work okay.

If I set both flashes to remote and put the D70 into commander mode I can fire them both remotely by popping up the onboard speedlight however I can't assign them to different groups or adjust their outputs remotely or independently.

Is this correct?

Yes, it's correct! coz the D70 can't assign the remote flashes into two or three difference groups, you have to wait for the new SU-800 or using your SB800 with number of other remotely SB800/600 flashes.

Can't dial in -/+ EV on the flashes themselves?

Thanks Birdy for that confirmation.

I couldn't when they were in remote mode?

The other thing that puzzled me was I couldn't turn the SB800 flash off when I was using it as the master. That option in the menu is blanked out once you go into master mode though the manual says you can turn it off in that spot.
