SanDisk Ultra II 1Gb ?Anybody know where I can purchase one of these ?
I have a 512Gb already but find it only holds about 44 RAW And a price I would expect to pay would be great. Thanks, Mic.
Correction, your 512Mb holds about 95 NEF files.
The camera indicator when the CF is emptym is inaccurate. It's been noted before - it seems to work off uncompressed NEF file sizes, whereas the D70 can only record compressed. But as to your question - look around that big auction site. $145-150ish seems to be the going rate. But beware AussieMemory (see elsewhere on these forums), they're only Aussie in name, not in location (with potential associated warranty issues).
Re: SanDisk Ultra II 1Gb ?
Get an Astone 1Gb CF Card for $121.00, it's faster than the Sandisk Ultra II miles away, 5 year warrnaty with it. Email me if need one Birddog114

Arhhh Thanks Onyx,
I thought I saw on my D70 I was up to more shots that were being displayed ( If that makes any sense ) ?? Will I get about double on the 1Gb ? So around the 200 ish Thanks, Mic.
Thanks Birddog,
My gaurdian Angel, should have known you would have something up your sleeve. I will check my funds and get back to you. Cheers, Mic.
I use 2Gb card as my standard now, 512 or 1Gb is not enough space for shooting with the D2h in continuous mode/ NEF, and soon 4Gb card.

Be warned...Hello,
Also if using ebay don't go anywhere near 'digitalization' - I lost $83 and they are currently being investigated by ebay's Fraud division as their own mediator square trade were not able to get contact with the seller. He has a lot of positive feedback but a handful of bad ones, I was an unfortunate victim. On a much brighter and happier note, I bought Astone 1gig card from Birdy (our ever reliable legendary forum ambassador) and I couldn't be happier with it . You do the math . Cheers and let us know how you get on! Geoff. http://www.pbase.com/d70geoff
Help with CF and forum protocols wantedPlease let me know if I've broken the protocols here - have tried to read lots of posts to pick up the rules and have made a couple of general posts myself, but am a bit confused about the rules where when it's OK to talk about possible purchases from Birddog (bearing in mind the comments about his donation of his own free time) and actually making a purchase - I'm hoping that's the eMail to d70users.com

I'm hoping to find out more about the details of the Astone card Birddog is talking about. The only one I could find elsewhere on the net was a SP1GBCF45, which would appear to be a rebadged Silicon Power card, which is a 45X card. I had thought the Ultra II was a 66X card which I assumed would be faster than a 45X one (but I don't know much about this stuff yet). Glen said
Did this mean Birdy can also sell Ultra IIs or did it mean the Astone performs as well as the Ultra IIs? Is it OK to eMail d70users.com with a general wish (eg a relatively fast 1GB CF card), or is it important to sort out whether the exact thing that you would like is available through one of the forums first? If the forum route is the way, should you strike up a new thread, or is it OK to hang off one that seems relevant, as I've done here I'd really appreciate a bit of guidance, both about the CF issue and the protocols from the older hands in the forum.
G'day Ru32, firstly welcome to the forums. It's great that you're spending the time to read posts, and you are being cautious with the do's and don't, and that's very much appreciated - but we're a forgiving bunch. Don't think you'll be castrated if you make a mistake.
To address your question - 45x versus 66x. Don't pay too much attention to the speed ratings. They're very much approximate and more a marketing tool for the companies than a reflection of what's expected in real life usage. If you haven't already, check out Rob Galbraith's comprehensive comparison of CF cards on his website. You will note that performance differences have no relation to the rated speed numbers. Regarding emailing Birddog with your potential purchase or questions on purchases, I'm sure if you insist on getting a Sandisk Ultra II he will supply one to you, and at a good price. However the point by other posters are, that you can save yourself a bit of cash by buying the Astone, which has given a number of members satisfaction and performance equalling the Sandisk. There seems to be a habit on these forums for dragging subjects off toppic, so feel free to tug this along on a tangent.

Welcome guy! enjoy your stay. Astone or Transcend they're all 45x Ultra high Performance, the name outside the card does not mean alot now, the main important is the chip itself inside the fancy cover. Whatever Sandisk Ultra II rate of read/ write does not pass the Astone or Transcend atm, I posted a link before from few testers. As far as many D70User have the Astone 45x 1GB card in the last few months, I have never heard any complaint about its performance, I used these Astone card as well and shooting D2h with 25 in NEF and 40 JPEG frames in continuously high mode, and the buffer of the D2h written to the card just seconds Please visit the following link which I posted long ago re# CF card http://forum.d70users.com/viewtopic.php?t=331 Birddog114

ru32day,
First of all, welcome, and yes, thank you for taking the time to read the posts and trying to understand the correct protocols here. That is appreciated. Regarding the protocols: Birddog is an accreddited dealer from Maxwell's (amongst others) meaning that he can arrange for the purchase of genuine Nikon products ex-Maxwell. Because of his extensive knowledge and contacts, he is also able to arrange for the purchase and delivery of many other products too, and always at attractive prices. The primary - the only - motivation here is to secure the best deal for members of this fforum, and these deals are only for members of this forum. While you are always free to buy whatever you want from whomever you wish to deal with, the service and prices available through Birddog are simply execeptional, and are well worth investigation. Having said that, please also respect Birddog's time - he needs to spend time in his business and with his family too. Do your research on the net, visiting stores, and asking here. Keep an eye on the Bargains forum for special deals that turn up from time to time. And then use the d70gear email address when you're about ready to buy. Regarding the Astone cards ... while the numbers on the cards are a marketing issue more than anything else, they can be somewhat representative of performance you might expect, but only up to a point. There's one factor that nobody in this thread has mentioned to date, and that's the camera. It doesn't matter if your card says it's 1000x, if your camera only supports 40x, that's the performance you'll see. And the situation is that the D70's performance seems to be perfectly matched to the Astone card. In JPG mode you can just shoot and shoot and shoot and shoot and shoot until your card is full. It's slightly slower in raw mode, but so too are other cards, and this is per the D70's specs. If you want to spend your money on a better name, then by al means, get the better name, and enjoy it. But we're using the Astones here with no issues whatsoever, and can highly recommend them. g.

Will take your adviceThanks for you time, patience and info. I'll take your advice and go with the Astone. Can't argue with experience and success!

ru32day, Welcome. My comment was meant to mean I cannot tell the difference in the real world between either card. To be straight I played it conservatively with proven fast name cards at first, then based on others experience tried a lesser known brand. That works here on this product but might not on others. That is the advantage of this forum as mentioned by Birddy, is you have 400 eyes and 200 brains looking out for you. Often worth asking the forum re purchases you will probably find at least one member has trodden that path before.
