Playing with shutter speedsSince my parents are visiting I thought I would take my dad (he has a D70 too) down to the beach to play around with shutter speed settings. This shot was taken after sunset at about 9:10pm with a shutter speed of 15 secs. Will have to play a bit more another night.

Nicole,
Great to have family around and have the same hobby as yours. Have you got the strap yet? Birddog114

Nicole, that's a very nice shot, well done, I gotta do some long exposures.
Birdie, met with Nicole on Wednesday and handed over the strap. Greg - - - - D200 etc

Re: Playing with shutter speedsNicole,
Well done. Love the texture. Cheers, fozzie
When people ask what equipment I use - I tell them my eyes.
I like this shot and I like long exposures myself. With this particular shot I sort of wish I could see less sky and more beach line. Maybe if the beach/water line ran out of the picture at around that bottom left corner of the shot, that would be great.
In any case it is a terrific photo. I've got a couple of long exposures planned myself.
I actually like the image the way it is with only a little bit of the beach in the bottom corner. Goes to show how subjective photography is. I might have liked to have seen more colour in the sky, so you might have to make a few more trips to the beach on differnet nights W00DY Andrew
Nikon D3 and lot's of Nikon stuff!!
Photography is only subjective in the sphere of my own photographic opinion, and others' opinion so long as it falls therein. Otherwise I think it's pretty black and white, and I'm always right. The reason why I would like a little more beach is that from the slightly elevated perspective it feels a tad claustrophobic, like I'm tiptoeing on a little sliver of land, or I'm leaning forward about to tip over. My favorite perspective is about 1 foot above the ground or even lower sometimes (especially for beach shots). Yeah it is subjective, that's why these forums are so much fun.
Nicole, they'll be working through the fifth course about now. Wish I was in sydney for the dinner!

Hi Nicole! What's your impression of the 80-400? Is it slow to focus as has been suggested? What do you think of the sharpness?
This will be my next major lens purchase and I'm curious as to it's performance. Seems to get very mixed reviews on various forums. Hope the dinner party is 'going off'.
