Summer Storms Ahoy! (pic)I was just south of toowoomba last night/afternoon anticipating some storms anyways I got this capture. this was the first long exposure outing with the D70s
Bigger version here. http://static.flickr.com/26/61776214_a258c0d360_o.jpg Also I have a small question, When I was doing bulb exposures over 30 seconds there appeared in the images some black dots with red green and blue tinges around them I presume these are dead/hot pixels due to the long exposure. there was a fair few of these at 52 seconds exposure I would estimate about 60 - 80 of them is this normal for a D70 sensor or is it not working correctly NR was on with all the photos and I can post examples if needed. Are we there yet?
Michael this is an excellent capture, tension drama, exposure, composition it's got the works. I wonder if cropping a little more off the bottom of the shot will work better? Still I wish I'd taken it and it would be hanging in my house already
cheers marco
one of the best lightning shots I've seen on this forum, if not the best
Love the colours and contrast, the redness of the sky makes it look alive. Would love to see this cropped top and bottom, and printed out really big *** When getting there is half the fun! ***
Sorry Michael, I can't offer an explanation to your problem, I'll leave that to someone more experienced!
At this image though! I aspire to capturing something like this! The structure of the clouds with the lightning and the setting sun behind is gorgeous. Magnificent colours. Melbourne's weather has been terribly disappointing lately, and I have all the inspiration...just need Mother Nature to cooperate a little! Do you have any others? If this was mine, it would be going on the wall! Well done.
I just might do that. I think it would make a nice christmas or birthday present for family and or my room which has currently zero framed photos. also thanks everyone for the comments Muchly appreciated! Are we there yet?
sweeeeeet shot. I would have zoomedin a bit more if possible, but its not exactly foreseeable now is it!
what about a crop like this ? http://davidsonimagery.com/
Right place, right time, where the hecks my camera ...

Michael.... which lens did you use for this shot? Darb's crop shows how absolutely pin sharp the shot was....
great capture.... cheers http://www.markcrossphotography.com - A camera, glass, and some light.
Wow - terrific shot Michael. I like the expanse of the first version. The crop just got a little too busy and noisy for me.

Forgot to address your problem - turn on your noise reduction for long exposures. Should resolve your issue.

the crop looks nice I might try play with it a little using the RAW version.
manta the long exposure NR was turned on for these exposures too. xerubus the lens I used was the standard D70s kit lens manualy focused to infinity. shot in raw at a focal length of 44mm with medium low sharpening. also the final image you see here isnt saved at 100% quality so I expected a tiny bit of Img quality lost. Thanks again to all who commented! Are we there yet?
never ceases to amaze me the quality of the kit lens... nicely done. cheers http://www.markcrossphotography.com - A camera, glass, and some light.
