70-200VR ProblemsHi All
Having problems with a 70-200VR lens. First time I used this lens on this camera.Whilst on a D100 it works fine for a few minutes/shots then freezes. No auto focus. Switching on and off, removing battery and lens and re inserting sometimes works othertimes not. Very frustrating. Always only lasts the few minutes. I have tried cleaning the lens and camera contacts but no go. All my other lenses do not cause this problem including 80-200 2.8 Nikkor. I have not tried this on another camera but I was assured that it works fine on a D70. I saw a thread on Nikonians about this and the guy was told by Nikon USA to clean the contacts and remove and re-insert the battery. Well I have done this but the hassle is still there. Anyone else experience this problem? Any suggestions? How should one clean the contacts of the lens and camera. Thanks once again. Albert
Did you check the batteries in the lens ?

I thought as much............. about the batteries. Ha Ha but worth a try. I do not know of anyone with an DSLR. Might have to try one of the camera stores if they have a used body laying around. Normally they are not too willing to help when you did not and are not going to purchase something. I supose I don't blame them. Cheers Albert
Albert, Then come to the mini meet next week, you can try and verify it with many other D70 bodies. Birddog114

Albert,
yes, I was joking. But you do know lots of people with DSLRs. Almost 1500, at last count. And there's a damn good reason why we ask people to put their location into their profiles: you happen to have more than a couple of members in your immediate vicinity, and apart from Birddog's offer for the next minimeet, my guess is that, before the end of the day, you'll probably have a couple of other members more local to you offering to help as well. g.

I'm not sure but sometimes the electronic contacts on the lens stick or get some dirt on them. You need to be very careful though fiddling in that area. Just some advice a camera repair guy gave me when I had a similar problem with a Sigma lens (and yes, I can here Gary laughing now! ). It did fix my problems but whether its the case with yours or not i'm not sure?
good luck with the outcome Albert. cheers marco
Albert, does the kit lens, AFS 18-70, do the same? My kit did, I thought it was the AFS connections, turned out to be a board in the camera and involved a trip to Maxwells to repair

This sounds suspiciously like an issue I recall hearing with early 70-200VR's, which turned out to be a grounding issue. Nikon put a ground wire in the affected lenses to cure the issue.
Smile; it makes people wonder what you have been up to.
Hi guys
Beena away from the computer so could not respond. Thanks to all who responded and offered advise. My kit lens and 50 1.8 work OK all my other lenses never had the chance to test. It sems like it is the D100 that has some problem with the contacts. I have taken it to Nikon for service and checkup. Cheers Albert
