MHD appreciation for all of your efforts and time..... Thank You.
Congratulations to everyone who entered and good luck. The quality of images is of a high standard as has now become the norm.... It's quite interesting to see the differing perspectives of movement....... or is it the subject matter available to us... Regards Tony All I know, is that I don't know enough.....
I think it's the combination of the two... can't wait till we find out who took what, and start to find out just "HOW" some of these shots where taken.. we definitely have a creative bunch of minds at work within the forum.
Potatis, (Doug) will be interested to see your entry when identities are revealed, cant imagine what was available at five to midnight on a Sunday, maybe closing time at the Oaks or the priest preparing for Midnight Mass?
Wow... 92 entries in all - Well done guys...
It's gonna take a while to vote for all these entries... Cheers, John

I went through all the Exif data (just the basic stuff, not the deep stuff) and nothing seemed out of place. If Leek's around he tends to look at the Exifs a little more then most... ?
Huh!!! Why do you say that? Cheers, John

Maybe... but if i checked EXIF properly, then I would have noticed my own mistake... Luckily I got away with it this time, but I'll be using jstrip to remove XMP data next time... CS2 does some strange things with EXIF data without making it obvious... Last edited by leek on Mon Nov 21, 2005 10:26 am, edited 1 time in total.

I have to say that there are some stunning entries in there!! I thought that last Challenge had something like 4-6 very good shots but this one looks like 10+.
I don't think that any cheeky shots will influence my judging Regards, Paul Vandenberg

MHD,
Could the login timeout on the gallery be extended? I keep coming back to ponder images and I've been logged out well within an hour. Also, as a consideration for future challenges, I find the voting scale a little awkward. If something is less than "below average", I wouldn't say it "needs some work", I'd say it should be reconsidered entirely. In other words, I feel the lower options try to say what should be done about a poor image that may not be applicable. Just a thought or two, -- Rog

Not sure if this is counted as discussing individual entries (PM me if so and I'll delete this post), but I just noticed the Google Ad underneath 'Bowl Movement' is 'Soiling Solutions'. Click the ads too people, help Scott out for all his work.

I haven't voted yet but I suspect I will approach the task with trepidation. 91 images all to be ranked 1-10, having to go back again and again to make sure a 7 towards the end is actually better than a 6 at the start.... Perhaps next time a 1-5 scale might be better as I doubt with so many entries (and assumably votes) the possibility of a tie would be minimal. The cream will always rise to the top. If I'm alone in a forest and my wife is not around to hear what I say, am I still wrong ??
perhaps...
And I now have regained net at home... fairly slow (iBurst) but not bad... New page

This time I voted with the help of a spreadsheet, I gave each photo a vote out of ten for technical difficulty, adherence to the subject and impact. Then I got the average and voted accordingly.
I was surprisingly safisfied with the results, I only changed the scoring slightly on 2 photos when I reviewed them. According to my results there were 3 clear winners for me (disregarding my own of course) __________

Thats a great idea.... I think I will copy it...

actually that is a good idea, and i think i will copy that too.
And Scott, many thanks mate for all your work towards this. It got me thinking, it seems unfair that you aren;t allowed to enter because you host it (correct me if I'm wrong). Perhaps we should host it elsewhere so that you are free to enter? Just a thought. Matt
Matt,
Scott actually won the first challenge, entered at least the second and is in line for the POTY If he is not entering it is by choice, not regulation. I'm sure no one here doubts his integrity or his counting skills If I'm alone in a forest and my wife is not around to hear what I say, am I still wrong ??
Please don't get me wrong, Scotts integrity and numerical ability is not in question. It didn't even cross my mind. I just thought he might be missing out on entering but I didn't realise he had.
Matt
Certainly a daunting task.
Leon suggested this idea at the Newcastle Meet on Sat as a different (and IMO better) way of voting in the next comp: Simply pick your five favourite pictures - not even ranked. The one that gets picked the most times wins. Simple and elegant and doesn't get skewed by people voting according to different scales (ie, just what is an excellent image, and just what is a 0 image). - Nick

Some absolute stunners in there - worthy winners of the helicopter flight! I've got a shortlist already and will hopefully narrow it down in the next few days.
MHD, I guess you don't want me to name the picture just yet, but I want to somehow choose it before the photographer names go public. Can you please let me know when you are making the names public so I can PM you my selection beforehand. Thanks
As much as I'd like to take credit for a good idea, I think it was Stubbsy I think it's worth considering for next time Scott - a scale of 1-10 is just too hard now with so many pics. *** When getting there is half the fun! ***
While I support the idea of making it easier for people to vote, I think the new proposed Leon/Stubbsy's method has a fatal flaw. I believe the main part of the the challenge is to encourage and improve the eye and technique of all the photographers that submit an entry. In light of trying to encourage all, and not just the top 5, I think every shot should be voted for, so at the end all entrants get feedback in how they faired. While not everyone is going to pick the same 5 shots, it is highly likely that some shots will not get any votes (or only their own vote), I personally don't think that's going to be encouraging... however the challenge will still of made them think, plan and take shots they may not have otherwise, so in that sense they still get something out of it, but I personally would like everyone to get some feedback....anyways just my rambling thoughts
Craig, that is a very fair and considered thought which has to be put into any equation. It is what we all learn from this which is most importatant, not the winner.
Thaddeus, I don't envy you having to pick a favourite for the helicopter trip (which I can recommend to all).
I agreed with Alpha_7,
Each entry needs voting, regardless, like or unlike it. Each member has the right to select their own favourites. I may vote it for the top but you'll turn it down to the bottom. Members has to make their own choice with their views and votes. Birddog114
VNAF, My Beloved Country and Airspace
I'd agree with that Craig... All entrants should get some feedback... Voting for this number of entries is not really that hard and doesn't take that long compared to the effort that people put into them. However, I would prefer to see a voting system based on a straight numerical value rather than the text that currently goes with them... Sometimes it is just not applicable and doesn't reflect my thoughts when voting. I have given a vote of "needs a lot of work" because it doesn't fit the theme - even if it's technically excellent and obviously doesn't "need a lot of work". I'm not sure if Gallery could handle it, but the ideal solution would be to have a three pronged voting system as suggested by philipb. It would be nice to be able to indicate your vote on different aspects of the images. Cheers, John
