Hi Rob
i need a new bag too
thinking of the omni trekker
http://www.maxwell.com.au/products/lowe ... ekker.html
simply because i can use it as a backpack too and it fits:
D2X
70-200
28-70
12-24dx
50mm
sb800
sd8a
rrs bh-55
tripod collar attachments
all my 10 cf cards
2 filters
ml-3 remote
20 AA batteries
and a bunch of odd ends and pieces
only issue is to figure out if it will fit my apple ibook2 and powersupply, a second camera body with the 85mm and a flash bracket.
i intend to get a pelican case 1550 with rollers so i can put the omni trekker in there and when not in use stand
on the pelican for extra height when i am in the pressbox.i wonder if birddog can supply these?

Wendellt,
Do you know how big is it? If you have it as a backpack, then people will see the bag moving without human (with you)
Use it with the Pelican 1550? are you going to drag that box all over the places?
Think and consider about that tactic again? How long the roller last for?
If you have a car, then yes! if not, then forget about it!!!!!!

i just had a look at the omni trekker and i think you would need muscles in your shit to carry that around when its full up !!!! would be nice though, although that would mean when travelling you have lug around two suitcases one for cam gear and one for clothes !
and when not in use stand on the pelican for extra height when i am in the pressbox.
sounds like your a short arse like me !

hi Birdy
I know exactly what i need to bring to a show
I figured from the diagrams the omni trekker has the right amount of room,
I won't be using the omni trekker for genral walking around as i still
have my minitrekker for day to day photographing and travelling
just preparing for fashion week and loreal fashion festival early next year, i have to look the part or they won't let me in i.e. pelican case and all
so i will only be using the pelican case on an event to event basis not every day.
what other lowepro(backpack) solution would you suggest?
lets say for 1 camera body +
70-200vr
28-70
85mm
apple ibook2 laptop
sb800 sd8a and a bunch of odd bits

Wendellt,
You have the microtrekker not minitrekker.
I don't know what bag will suit your style coz you have so many creatively ideas.
Perhaps collecting few green bags from Woollies may help.

OK, you have to think and answer to yourself:
- When you want to do the shooting an event, will you trust the place by placing your gear out of your eyesight?
- Do you want to be mobility in shooting at an event?
- Do you need all your gears at an event?
- Do you have an assistant?
- Do people care what you shoot with?

last time i was in the pressbox most of the pro photogrpahers took first line i was at the back of them and me lacking in height i had to stand on my toes to get shots over their shoulders. I saw one other girl she was short like me, she stood on her pelican case with her monopod to get a better view it worked well. Every pro photographer at fashion week had a pelican or hard case with wheels. Some sat on them and photographed low at the front and others stood on them to get more height over the people in the first row.
essentially birddog i need a hard case and a soft case to carry the gear around on my back when i have to
i figured the omni trekker will be the best investment because it is a little bit more than what i need in terms of size.

yes, i can be with a pelican caase wirh omni trrekker inside will linsulate against some shock can use the case to stand on
at a venue i only have to go so far, when i am luggingthe cast furhter I wil ltake the omni trekker out and pu tit on my back and then lug the case
usually fashion events are held in nice infrastructures smooth surfaces and all, i am not lugging my stuff on a rocky surface
- Do you need all your gears at an event?
essentially 1st body with 28-70, second body with 70-200, 85mm
flash, battery pack and definitely a laptop, heavy but manageable for me
- Do you have an assistant?
no but i am sure i can find one in a falsh
Brad Hick the official fashion week photographer had 3 of them!
- Do people care what you shoot with?[/quote]
It helps to maintain a certain level of appearance, fashion is all about perception, you have to look the part as well as being accredited.
anyway one day i plan to shoot the overseas shows so the pelican case will be essential.

Wendellt,
Go for it, if you see it's your needs, grab all as you can afford it and be proud to stand up among the pp in those pressbox.
A free shopping trolley at Woolies is cheap and handy, you can pick it up free anywhere around, it can be used with many great purposes.
Yes, stand on it, giving you more height than the Pelican case, and provide you free transport around the block once you sit in it and steer it around

hi rob
your right i need muscles, which i lack in abundance, I have 6 months to work on that. However i will only be walking around short distances like hotel room -> event -> back to room
taxi to airport
I might end up going for the omni traveller much smaller
i guess i don't have to bring everything - getting the job done with 1 body and the 70-200
i guess i can pack some of my clothes in the micro trekker on my back
you two have really got me thinking, why is everything so confussing?

funny
but trollies are not allowed in to these events you have to check them in and a vallet will park it for you - for modest fee of course. Once in, your on foot.
sorry Bob for hijacking your thread!
do they allow the pelican 1550/or the omni treker for domestic overhead baggage on the plane?

Oh I see! you need something build with shock absorber As you known, I have three times the gears you have (3 camera bodies + heap of lenses), gone shooting with many events, in the air or on the ground, I never break any of my gears and I don't need the Pelican nor require any other Omni bag. I only carry what I think I need to use with those events. As I said the Omni trekker on your back, people will see the bag moving without a human essentially 1st body with 28-70, second body with 70-200, 85mm flash, battery pack and definitely a laptop, heavy but manageable for me
I have 3 bodies as said above and I have the mini trekker with my special design photovest. no but i am sure i can find one in a falsh Brad Hick the official fashion week photographer had 3 of them!
Yes, I know you can find one or ten in a flash, those chicks there are looking at you all the time. It helps to maintain a certain level of appearance, fashion is all about perception, you have to look the part as well as being accredited.
Not true! You don't need all those flashy or fancy listed gears as being an accredited photographer. anyway one day i plan to shoot the overseas shows so the pelican case will be essential.
Will you trust all the Airlines in giving them the Pelican case with all your tools of trade in it Me? NO and NO.

With WendellT, anything is doable, no doubt! sorry Bob for hijacking your thread! do they allow the pelican 1550/or the omni treker for domestic overhead baggage on the plane?
They may check you and the Pelican case in the cargo hold.

One important thing at any event:
Get there first or as early as no one there yet, and secure a good spot in front of other pp in the pressbox.

o.k seem to be all over the place here
I am goijgn away on the 16th way before then i need some kind of larger lowepro bag to at least hold d2x 70-200 12-24dx flash and 50mm
you showed me your larger bagat last minimeet looks bigger and not too bulky
now i have two choices here
1. one day i wil require the omni trekker because i will ahve a heap of stuff
so buy the omni trekker now and save money by not having to purchase againa and again - good investment buy large so you scale down
2. buy the slightly larger than my micro trekker bag whatever that is - your one for Paris and general walkaround with my new 70-200
and then later early next year buy the omni trekker and pelican case
if i do this i will end up with 3 bags and a hard case.
I do not need the pelican case for paris when i go away on the 16th, just a bigger bag.
making sense?
next time i go to a show before the end of the year i will bring an eski to stand on.
Anything is possible if your 1 screw loose enough to try, you never know till you give it a go!

That's the mini trekker as many members have and exactly what Rob posted at the beginning of this thread. now i have two choices here
1. one day i wil require the omni trekker because i will ahve a heap of stuff so buy the omni trekker now and save money by not having to purchase againa and again - good investment buy large so you scale down

Having more bags in you inventory, won't make you sick! how many handbag that your mother or other ladies have in their life? I do not need the pelican case for paris when i go away on the 16th, just a bigger bag. making sense?
No, please be aware of the new restriction rules and weight limitation of all airlines about the carry-on bag. next time i go to a show before the end of the year i will bring an eski to stand on.
It's good ideas! and you can store your lens in it also but use it when you want to swap lens instead of a plastic bag.

Rob,
He got the micro trekker 200, perhaps he wants another microtrekker 100 so he can stack it on top of his existing 200.

Damn i carry one of these big plastic tubs with alid on with most of my gear in it, it stays in the car so which is ok. but yeh a bag like this would be good when you are going to have to walk a bit like at an event where you cant get back to the car etc.. not that i would take it all for an event of that type, but just take what i need. Is ok around here at the local events but if i go away i might be looking at 1 of these myself.
