Filenames

Postby Alpha_7 on Tue Nov 22, 2005 4:55 pm

Time for newbie question of the week. Where can I change the filename options so that my d70 keeps incrementing the filename counter ? If I shot all day and fill up 3 cards, I end up with three files all called DSC_001.jpg or whatever it is...

how can I make it that it will just keep incrementing no mater how many cards I go through ?

It would make it easier to ID the photos, having them all with unique names.. rather then having so many with the same name..

Turn "File No. Sequence" to ON

(One of the options in the "Spanner" section of your camera menus)

Thanks, :)

Not sure why this wouldn't be the default...

Because...babysmith 09898.jpg...babysmith 09899.jpg is not as good as babysmith 01.jpg, 02.jpg etc. I guess it depends on what you are doing with your camera. At least we have the option!

Strange, this is the default in my camera. It's been set to that right from the start. As a matter of fact, if I want to know how many times I've pressed the shutter button, I just look at the number in the last photo.

The counter clicks over at 9999 so beyond 10,000 images you have a problem

This free EXIF viewer will provide all possible information including the
number of shutter actuations made by the camera.

I use this too, on recommendation from the forums.

However one cavet I've noticed is you need to shot a photo in JPEG not RAW to get the number of shuuter actuations...

I shoot in RAW (with my clothes on) and convert using Nikon Capture and the number of shutter releases is retained.

Arh, I guess Rawshooter doesn't support more advanced Exif data, problem found. Thanks for letting me know Blink
