Photoshop CS2 Professional V AcademicMy daughter has taken a fancy to using MY CS2 Pro and I now see that their is a Academic version of CS2 dose the Academic version at 1/3 the price have all the features of the Pro version? .If so where would be the best place in Sydney to purchase a copy? LOZ
Loz I thought that had always been a special price for academic users. I believe all you have to do to get the price is show proof of student ID and the course in which you are enrolled.

they are not the same.......... all retouching is the same but some of the output re professional services are not usable........I doubt if you will be able to tell the difference as it is only minor.......unless you are an art studio outputting to print houses........

Loz, you should check the licence - it might be permissible to install it on two computers in the one household provided both instances of the program aren't used at the same time.

My understanding is as big pix said - the printing function is somewhat limitied (ie can't send to print any larger than A4, I was told)... but that was the only limitation I was told about....

pippin88, Who cares! can a student use the PSCS and earning his or her income? GregB, You can install 3 times over three PCs or notebooks and can use it same time, no one stop you at this, and you have to be student or any kind of student. After 3 or 4 months, do another installation, that will be fine. Cyanide, I printed poster size with CS & CS2 Academic. Birddog114

I think Greg is correct about the license and use on 2 PCs as long as not at the same time. My daughter has the academic version so I will check the licence tonight. To date I'm not aware of any differences. Saved a 12"X8" jpeg the other night and printed it on a labs Fuju Frontier at 12X8 OK. 12X8 is bigger than A4. There may be some difference with a direct connected printer but never use a direct printer so wouldn't know.

When we purchase stock from ADOBE Australia or its distributors, they never request us to sell the academic version with the student's proof sighted! Same as Microsoft Academic version for Student and Teachers, All has been changed years ago. It's up to the end users, end user's resposibilities and they have to read & agreed with End-user agreement same as condition of licensing. Birddog114

Loz I have not used it so I cannot answer that question, but I doubt that there is any real difference and according to what Birddog hsa said this would appear to be the case.

johnd, Even you're on your home networking, the PSCS2 does not detect other PC with the same license has been used. I have 3 three kids and 5 PCs on a network, guess what? Edit: and I print the A3 & super A3 on my Epson 2100 same as other members. No restriction. Birddog114

I think you'll find the license says it can't be used for commercial work. So if the student is using the product in earning money, they'd better have a full license if they want to be covered in the event of an audit! There is always the chicken-and-egg issue of how do you start earning money without the right (expensive) tools, so many people do start earning money with academic licenses. But they need to get a full license as a priority to minimise the amount of time they're breaking the law. In that sort of case I think you'd be very unlucky to be prosecuted: as long as you had purchased the full version fairly promptly. Of course I Am Not A Lawyer, etc, etc... The only product differences I'd expect would be things like the lack of Adobe Stock Photos in an Academic version. But I don't have that version so I can't verify.
Yes, the End-Users agreement has that clause, but can the student use it to produce his or her income? yes, there're many loop holes in the End Users Agreement. Legally is not but they can use it to produce their income as you can see it thru many loop holes in the industry! How many of them got caught red hands? How many honest people in this world telling people, I'm using pirated software? Last edited by birddog114 on Thu Nov 24, 2005 1:54 pm, edited 1 time in total.

OK, cool - thanks for the clarification re printing.
Curious - I am looking to get a version of Photoshop very soon (I only have PS 4 at the moment).... what would people buy if they were in my situation? I can "afford" any of the versions, just with increasing amounts of hip-pocket pain..... CS2 Academic (mother is a teacher) is a the top of my list..... Would most people accept that CS2 is now "old" enough for the bugs to be ironed out? Is it worth it over CS? Version 7? (Was just about to start a new thread on this question, and will be happy to do so if this is to far off the original topic.... ) Rae

LOL.... was referring to the comments made when it first came out about "not buying something when it is really new and instead waiting until the bugs were ironed out"....
So - no bugs, huh? Rae

The Academic version is exactly the same as the other version... it's just cheaper... No limitations at all... (at least I haven't noticed any)...
Cyanide, The big advantage of CS2 over CS is the addition of Adobe Bridge which is like the old File Browser on steroids... It really simplifies your workflow once you get used to it. CS2 also has a lot of improvements to the basic tools and also new handy features like the Vanishing Point tool that allows you to clone taking perspective into account. Cheers, John

Wow what a can of worms I have opened thanks for all your replies. Bugger I think PS2 Pro was $1350 Just goes to show I should have asked for advise here before wasting $700 Just to confuse things a little more I asked our Art Department the same question and they said that Photoshop was S#*t (well spoken young girls) and if anyone was half serious they would use APPLE . One thing I leant from her statement was next time I interview anyone for a position the first question will be do you prefer Mac or PC this may cut down on the time I spend interviewing and help make the short list a little shorter. LOZ
I should visit her and asking for a job soon! So what she said is Apple can't use PSCS or PSCS doesn't work with Apple? So PSCS is only shit and works with PC Edit: so what is she using now? MAC or PC?, I noticed she said: half serious they would use MAC. Birddog114
