What do you like taking pics of?Hey guys, Im a newbie and I figured I would make my first question fairly general! Ive had my D70 for about 9 or 10 months now and I love it. Im still working out all the settings but its gone well. Have shot some fantastic pictures. Im just wondering what the majority of you enjoy taking shots of? I enjoy lightning and animals for the most part. I also take a lot of people pictures. I like taking pics of odd things, like half a dogs face or something like that.. anyone else weird like me? Hope to get to know some of yah!!
Hi PicObsessed, Welcome to the forums.
In answer to your question I would say we have a great mix of members that all like taking shots of various things, check out the Image Critque section you'll find landscapes, night shoots, panorama's, abstract shots, macro's of bugs, flowers and anything else you can think of. We have some great bird photographers, excellent frog and insects shots, model shots, studio shots, fashion shows... anything that takes your fancy it probably is here and if not then will make room for you too I'd suggest you put a more details description of your Location (and camera body in your profile). This helps other members identify you and if they live close by organise events and so forth. Enjoy your stay!
Really depends on what I'm doing, but I find that most of my photos are candid happy-snaps, usually at a party, or a gathering of friends at someone's house etc.
Otherwise if I know we've planned something (like going to the footy or going away for the weekend etc), I have my camera with me, and usually get a few photos. I like scenery shots, sunsets etc, but it's not easy to get them when you work all day in the city and only get home at about 7pm, then are busy with housework/shopping all weekend Of course when I get my D70s in a couple of weeks, I'll have to widen the range of my photography a bit
Hi PicObsessed and welcome to the forums.
I think you will find a range of stuff photographed by members here. Some members will primarily shoot things like motorsports, whilst others will be interested in landscape stuff, whilst still others will be interested in birds and animals. Some members will just take happy snaps of family and friends. In short the members here pretty much cover all possible photographic situations. Steve
Hi PicObsessed, apt name
your on a good start I like anything wth creative flair. Experimentation is good too I think it's important to photograph everything and anything tht way you can learn to appreciate more things that you weren't interested in before. 1 example is when i photographed a student play, I wasn't really interested in student plays rather opting for the more professional productions. The play was great even with a low budget and presented a shooting challenge, now I want to photograph more of them as i think they are dynamic and unpredictable in nature, great ingredients for great image making.
I love taking candid shots, of people or situations that are 'in the moment' and never to be repeated. The way I see it - if it's a repeatable event it can be replicated by anyone at anytime, so everyone could potentially have the same shot... I'd rather be unique and be the only one to have captured the shot.
But that's more of what I wished I take pics of, the majority of my pics are probably documentary-type that serve as a personal reminder of past events... and hence probably won't seem to make much sense or serve a purpose to anyone else. Photography can be a vehicle for your other passions, or it can be a means to an end. eg. if you were into model trains for instance, the purpose of photography could be used to maximise your enjoyment of viewing the trains - whereas others see photography itself as its own purpose, and take pics of anything and everything around them for either recollection of reality or for artistic value. Yet others still see photography as the excuse for which to acquire more gadgets associated with the art, and the enjoyment comes from the excitement of anticipation/acquisition of the newest body/lenses or accessories.
Welcome to the forums!
What do I like? Sport, preferably motorsport, but I'm willing to 'prostitute' myself and if someones paying me, I'll take photos of anything. I'm not proud! 2x D700, 2x D2h, lenses, speedlights, studio, pelican cases, tripods, monopods, patridges, pear trees etc etc

need I say more? Actually I love industrial / commercial shoots, mines Power stations or heavy equipment. It never complains and never tells you it's good or bad side. There are usually amazing lights, colours and shapes and the pay is great cheers doug
