Computer not recognising camera???

I tried to connect my d70 to my computer today, but was unable to browse any pics on it. The usual "PC" didn't show on the d70 screen and i couldn't see the camera anywhere on my computer. It was working fine just yesterday.

Can anyone help me out please?

have you tried a different usb port? is the camera still set to mass storage for usb? are any of your other usb devices working?

Tried different usb port and also tried different computer. Both didn't show the d70. Tried psp in same usb port which was working fine. Tried mass storage and ptp, no luck

I assume you've tried the favourite Windows troubleshooting technique? ie: if all else fails, reboot and try again

As xerebus said, check to see if that USB port is working with other devices, or if other USB devices are working at all.

It's set to Mass Storage. Still no good

Redfield, what operating system, mac, linux or windows? Have you checked the cable and connectors itself? It is not recommended to use the cable to look download images but a card reader as the connection is delicate. Does the connection look solid (at the camera end)?

Windows XP. Checked cables and connecters on both camera and computer and they both seem fine. It was working fine yesterday, but when i went to download some images to my computer today, it didn't show up. If this can't be fixed then I guess I'll have to get a seperate card reader

Edit: When i plug the usb cable into the camera, the light at the back lights up for a second as if it is trying to read it. But it just doesn't connect to the computer

Get the card reader anyway, saves wear and taer on your camera, better to have it on the $35 reader. XP should always recognise it, is the battery in good charge? The display requires bugger all, but may not be enough for other things. There are images on the card? Are they visible on the camera screen? You are welcome to borrow my cable if I can find it to test yours.

The card reader is the better option anyway, transfers at USB2 speed instead of 1.1 from the camera, makes a big difference.

Redfield, Maxwells will fix it under warranty, I would wait till after christmas as it is a two week, at least, wait. As Greg said the card reader is by far the preferred option.

Redfield - I know this sounds obvious, but when you plug in the cable do you turn the camera on ??

Redfield, my D70 does exactly the same thing.

I sent it Andersons under warrenty for repair, but they only cleaned the connector.

If I wiggle my connector it works sometimes..

But yes a card reader is the best option and takes a whole lot less time to.
