NYE - Glad I'm going to be away

Postby gstark on Tue Dec 14, 2004 1:05 pm

A disco ball suspended from the coathanger?

What next? Barry Gibb on the deck of the Titanic singing Advance Straya Fair?

Maybe the fireworks won't.

Barry Gibb is one of the BeeGees.

And no, they're not Strayans, but pommies.

They are not really putting a disco ball on the coathanger are they?

'Fraid so.

I can just see the ferries now, dancing under the bridge.

Kick, 1, 2.

Kick, 1, 2.

Turn, splash, swim to shore.

Wanna sell your harbourside view property now? :)

Seriously, NYE till the end of January.

I'll get a few shots of it from my front lawn and send them to my gay brother in New York, should make him smile, gay culture has taken over the SHB. Should look quite interesting with the fireworks reflecting off it

NYE sucks. Back when I could be bothered going in search of the big NYE party, I generally found that

1. expectations were so high, they could never be realised
2. the nature of the evening often meant that, among the circle of friends, some were away, some had other things to go to, there was dilution
3. it was difficult to get there and back
4. if you managed one good NYE in four, that was a good outcome

I have had too many disappointing NYEs. Mind you, there have been a few that were spectacular, but the percentages are not favourable.

(And someone asked who Barry Gibb is. Oh my. I am feeling very old today)

Greg, the Barry Gibb question had me thinking too. I think the big dissapointment was NYE 2000 with people charging $1-2k for tickets to restuarants with a view of the harbour. Lot of discounting in the last week

Yes Glen, the milennium profiteering was not attractive.

I suspect that there will be even greater rounds of discounting to come.

I'm well and truly all fireworked out. When will the organisers of these events realise that perhaps enough is enough?

Give me a quiet night, with a couple of close friends and a nice bottle of Veuve, thank yo very much. Perhaps a waterfront setting, but not necessarily harbourside.

Spot on... I won't be on the harbour, but I will be at home on the lake enjoying a nice red and topping off with a smooth port pipe.

Au contraire, I got paid $110 an hour or something mental like that to serve beer and champas to people on the Opera House forecourt. :D At midnight everyone was watching the fireworks, so we each grabbed a champas, sat on top of a container, and watched the fireworks too. Awesome night! I think I still have my payslip somewhere too.

Lindy was actually on the harbour that night.

Directly under the bridge, on one of the barges carrying the lanterns ...

You want a hand scrubbing that tub on New Years Eve?

By the way...I love the BeeGees and I love fireworks and I love champagne...does that make me a queer kinda guy?

Depends if you like Shirley Bassey and think 'Babs' is a good actress.

I enjoy NYE. Since 2000, I went to Bennalong Point or right on the tip of Mrs Maquarie's Point.

Somehow I find it over-rated.
