Tripod alternative?

And just a bit cheaper than a carbon fibre Gitzo!

Glen
That thing is fairly small and there are no tables in the bush. I'm in the process of thinking about a new tripod but I can't see myself spending $1000 for a Gitso and ballhead because I don't work from a tripod very often. If I did then they would be my choice.
I'm thinking a second hand Manfrotto with a standard tilt&pan would suffice. All the damn thing has to do is hold the camera still?

That looks somewhat dodgy. Attaching a camera to a G clamp... hmmm

I would put a Sony P&S camera on it and when the clamp breaks and falls to the ground smashing the camera to bits, i wouldn't be concerned at all. I'd probably cheer. It would be another thing if i put a 'real' camera on it such as D70... :)
