My first enlargementHi All,
I've decided to finally try and get one of my shots enlarged, this shot is one of my first I took my with D70, but still a favourite of mine. This is it straight from the camera, I was wondering if I should attempt to PP it (I'm still a total newbie at CS2), or if there is anything else I should do in preparation before sending it to the photo lab ? Also I think a matt finish would suit it best, but like I said I'm fairly clueless with all this. Thanks, Craig Click for a larger image.
i usually send mine into my lab as TIFF ... just my usual sharpening, nothing special for printing. (im sure theres probably some "proper" sharpening to use)
stick with original sizesm, like 12 x 8, 15x10, 20 x 30 (i think) ... or if you need to crop to a different ration, do it for them in photoshop, dont let them do it. Make sure they dont do any auto levels, auto colour at all .. some labs do some auto modification for customers. Id go with matte finish on larger ones because of less reflection, and also shows handling marks less noticeable. a couple ive had done at my place; 20 x 30 inch print http://darb.net/theranch/DSC_2165 32 inch x 12inch (this was from a canon jpeg !! and still printed beautifully, albeit its an image that ran a lot of NR over intentionally to give it a very plastic and arty feel so any lack of detail was intentional) http://darb.net/theranch/DSC_2170 http://davidsonimagery.com/
Right place, right time, where the hecks my camera ...

Tim here is a 20x30 pic i had printed of Capirossi when he came off at Phillip Island last Moto GP and this was a crop for my D70 file so yes they will print up fine.

zeeke : first was d70, the pano was canon 300D , in jpeg mode tho, and cropped (duh)
i just send them in as 6mp images, i dont bother upsizing etc, the lab seems to do a good job at that in any case. at 30 x 20 inch that first pic is still super clean, it could easily go bigger I reckon. http://davidsonimagery.com/

Impressive.. ive only had 6x4 prints done up.. and that was at my local camera house.. always wanted to see my picts printed out full size... i sometimes print out pictures on my el cheapo canon printer... but it'd never match the quality of a proper print job..
thanks for the info! Tim D70 - D200/MBD200 Coming soon - Too Much Gear, Not Enough Talent
