Picture of the Week- 06.12.05Hi all,
I can't belive how quickly our turns for choosing POTW come along. This week has been particularly difficult to find ONE winner, but there can only be one in this selection. I have chosen Owen's image of the Vineyard (after reworking) soon after rainfall. The colours, light and technical velocity of this image are powerful, emotive and serene (to name but a few). You have captured a pearler of a photo here Owen and you should be proud! For the original photo, it is here: I liked the reworked photo and thought the lighting and saturation were generally improved. I also realise there were some difference of opinions with the original and re-worked image, however my preference was indeed the 2nd one. The edge of the back vineyard on the fence line draws the viewer into the centre and the contrast between the green of the vineyards and the skies blues and light into the leaves is stunning. The original thread for those who missed this the first time around can be viewed here: http://www.dslrusers.com/viewtopic.php?t=12096 Congratulations to Owen - ANYONE who is chosen for POTW should be really proud because I know that all of the mods take great pride in choosing these images each week, and it's not a decision that is made easily or quickly at all! Geoff

Nice pick Geoff!
I like! The sky is surreal and the image is nicely saturated and can cope with that saturation... the lighting is superb! Top work Owen! Contender for POTY 2006 New page

Owen - what a standout image this is. Congratulations on both taking out POTW this week & also for capturing such a magnificent photo. This is digital photography at it's best, using available technology and making an already great shot, better.
The saturated colours really captivate the eye and although there are many different angles at play in the horizon, it seems to flow wonderfully. 10/10 - "send to print immediately" Geoff - fantastic choice ! Dave

I still love this image. It is excactly what i want to shoot one day. This along with your waterfall pics are standouts this week or so.
Well done Owen and you are a very worthy POTW winner. Steve.

One of the things that I like most about this shot is the almost alien glow coming from just over the horizon. Makes you think that there is something unseen.
If I was a religious guy I'd say there is something divine about the scene. Regards

I think that what makes this image is the lovely soft light and subtle tones. You can feel that you are standing right amongst the vines. Somewhat surreal. Well done Owen.

Thanks so much everyone. I have had a look at some of the shots that have been posted recently and I have literally been in awe of a lot of them. As such I don't feel like my shots are ever up to the standard of some of the others posted here, but I thankyou that you do like some of the things I post . Without the feedback that I get from you all when I post my images I would be lost and be without ideas on how to improve them, so thanks again.
Kind Regards, Owen.
One can almost smell the "after storm smell" in this one.
Great image, and like Geoff, I too prefer the reworked version. g.

Wonderful choice - and another instance where if it wasn't for POTW I wouldn't have seen a great picture (I missed the edited version when it was posted).
Well done Owen - something I hope is already hanging on a wall somewhere *** When getting there is half the fun! ***
Well... I haven't had it printed yet, however I altered our computer policy at the Library and it's displaying on all the public use computers as of yesterday The next best thing to framing and hanging really.
Owen - congratulations on POTW - a great photograph that deserves the win although I still much pefer the non-worked version for its depth of emotion in colour - so 2 POTW

This is a lovel, lovely picture
it has a surreal feel to it because of the tone, colours and simplicity of the composition. It really is a well deserved picture of the week, wish i had taken it. One of your best POTW selections Geoff
Owen
I've pretty much said it all in the original thread. Congratulations on being selected for POTW. This is a great example of an image that rewards the viewer on repeated viewings. Peter

Well done Owen.
Lovely capture. Great work on the PP'ing. Certainly brought that picture to life. Congrats.
Owen, I've always found something really special about your landscape pics... congratulations on getting POTW - you deserve the recognition (tho I feel not necessarily just for that one pic). You've posted plenty of greatt great shots IMO, esp. slow shutter stuff (hiking/waterfalls, by the beach with the rocks, etc)
Lovely landscapeYou've done well. I like the colours, the depth of field, and the landscape - of course.
Congratulations! Now I have to find out myself how to submit photos.
