New lens speculationFor what it's worth ??????
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1021&message=16207748 AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED Would be interesting if true. (Apologies if posted previously).
Hmmm.. interesting. Will definitely keep an eye out for this one, could bridge the gap between "I want" and "I can afford"
I certainly hope the Micro-Nikkor makes to beyond speculation - that would be a sweet portrait and macro lens, nice focal length with AF-S, and bonus VR to boot.
Sadly I think it's more a case of wishful thinking - there's been a perceived lack of VR in Nikon's lens lineup in recent past, after Nikon invented the technology and brought it to market first, Canon's IS range grew to surpass Nikon's and I guess this is the overcompensating speculation.
A logical step from Nikon but i'll believe it when i see it.
DPreview is not exactly renowned for it's accuracy, there's too many people on there who are pretty good with photoshop. IE: from the same website as the pics http://www.club-nikon.org/links/digital_f5.htm Steve.

What a hoot! Clever stuff. Back on track... I personally would benefit greatly from VR on the 105mm Micro as anyone who's seen my poorly focussed attempts using BlacknStormy's lens can attest. Getting shaky in my old age... Simon

Re: New lens speculationThey're ill-informed, as usual. Here's what I heard: There will only be one new lens, a lens to end all lens lust. The new lens will be a 12-400 f/1.4. It will only be 18cm long and have a 52mm filter thread. Impossible you say? Well, it uses Nikon's yet to be unveiled quantum-optics technology. Naturally, it'll feature VR and do 1:1 macro. Unlike other AF lenses, it won't draw power from the camera's battery but instead charge it from the light energy it would have gathered by now if it had been produced a million years ago (don't ask me, I don't quite understand that quantum stuff either). This is an noteworthy departure from their original plan to use conventional optics. The (naturally huge) conventionally constructed lens was rumoured to feature an anti-gravitational device that not only relieved the photographer of it's own weight but carried the whole photo bag for her/him. It is believed that hitherto unnamed sponsors of that technology have withdrawn their approval to introduce it to earthlings, errr, the professional photography market at this stage... Now, you be the judge, which sounds more believable? Cheers Steffen.
