Hey Paul! Take your camera to a service station. Blow it out with the compressed air hose. Get a wad of steel wool and a bottle of metho....and scrub as if your life depends upon it.
Or contact Birddog for a bottle of Eclipse...not $170 but only $165. There...I have vented. Maybe we should contact Paul and invite him to say Hi? Regards
Matt. K
Saw the post and just had to tell him about this forum - so hopefully we will have another member soon.

G'day robw25, welcome to our forums! I'm sure you'll find yourself at home here.
As for the Eclipse, in another thread somehwere, MCWB tested it and found it had exactly the same chemical composition as methanol. When my bottle of Eclipse fluid runs out, I'm simply gunna buy methanol.
methanol !!!! you shouldnt use that !!!! thats what i was told when i asked at a few camera places in adelaide last weekend, i thought maybe i said the wrong thing
thanks for the welcoming posts cheers rob
It seems nobody, not even the camera makers themselves, are willing to take responsibility for releasing a proper CCD cleaning procedure for consumers. As the most effective ones involve physical contact - I guess these days in our litiguous society everyone's covering their backsides first and foremost.
Camera shops would probably recommend a blower bulb, to gentle puff air at the CCD surface. That's about as idiot proof a procedure as it gets right now, until someone builds a better idiot...
Maybe they thought you were talking about 'metho', i.e. methylated spirits, which is about 90% ethanol and 10% methanol, with extra nasties to stop you drinking it. The Eclipse fluid looks to be just pure methanol, or methanol with a little water. Welcome!
Hi robw25, good to see another south Aussie on the forums.
Welcome mate i know you will enjoy yourself here as i do and find i spend more time here than my other forums, just like the 1 you just came from, i still go there because of my fuji forum but yes wealth of information here , great people. Does anyone here know of a special brush that has magnetic bristles for about 60 us$ that is supposed to get the dust off or something like that? I'm sure I read about it somewhere, I just can't remember where. My memory sucks. Very fine brush bristles that attracted the dust. Probably as good as a blower. But the guy selling it on the internet said it was better...seemed like an honest enough guy...
edited, Oh yes, and welcome Rob. I'm the resident Canadian. I keep coming back here to hang with the aussies for some reason. You may find this site quite friendly and interesting and approachable.
I went down this road as well - good value Chris Chris

Dooda,
This seems to sound vaguely familiar yo me. I seem to recall something like this during the mid 80's. Can't remember any details at the moment though. Do you have a URL or name for this ? Maybe it'll jog my grey matter ... g.

I will try, but I thought that it was through this site. The only other possibility is on megapixel.net, which I used to check out on occasion. If that wasn't it than "cyberspace" is about as specific as I can possibly be.
G'day,
Is this what you're thinking of? http://www.visibledust.com/ I believe it has a good reputation, but as quick cleans in the field with the liquid clean considered as the major service... Cheers, Mudder...
Looks interesting, but not the product I'm half remembering. I seem to recall that the product I'm thinking of had some sort of radioactive component ... g.

Dooda,
Is this link of any use to you? http://www.visibledust.com/sensorbrush.htm Cheers Matt Edit: Whoops... should have read through the rest of the posts.
dooda, please take my word: the visibledust cleaning kit works OK with few dust bunnies which is not stuck hard on your CCD, they're number of very fine art brushes, can be brushed or use on the camera mount or some internal parts. Once it got something stuck on the ccd, only Eclipse fluid and Pec*Pad will do the job properly with a Giotto Rocket Air. As mentioned in few previously threads, I and others used it but I still prefer the Pec*Pad + Eclipse fluid. Last edited by birddog114 on Wed Dec 15, 2004 8:49 pm, edited 1 time in total.
