Zoom Slide Duplicator use with D70 ????

Has anyone successfully used the above mentioned product with a D70 ??

It's basically a tube which mounts onto the D70 using a T-Mount adaptor at one end, and holds a slide at the other end. No lense is used.

It measures about 15cm long, and has a carrier at one end where the slide goes, which has an opaque cover behind it.

You mount the adaptor, mount the copier, mount the slide, set f16 and appropriate shutter speed, and fire a speedlight through the opaque rear cover wirelessly while taking the shot. There is no focusing, but there is an ability to 'zoom' into the slide, which appears unnecessary with the Nikon Digital crop.

Anyway - the problem is this....the slide copier is not 'chipped' and hence it appears impossible to set any aperture. All I get is 'f - - ' when I use manual, and an inability to fire off a shot.

Anyone have any idea how I might set an aperture ?

I have a similar one which has a 55mm thread and screws onto (in my case) my 35-105 zoom.

Works a treat. Way faster than scanning and a much better result. Not sure about the one you have but I dont know how you can set your aperture to f16 when there is no aperture to set (without a lens).

I would just try different shutter speeds by trial and errow on full manual.

You don't need to use the flash. Any lightsource will do as long as you leave your whitebalance on auto.

Thanks for the speedy reply. I got it to work by unmounting and remounting a few times, which then let me fire the shutter.

Not being able to set an aperture is a hassle though. I'm not sure if thats affecting the quality. Getting the exposure right took about 3 shots - that was the easy bit.

I think I'll have to give up on this version though. The quality appears to be 'disposable camera' quality at best, since it's not actually using a lense - just the piece of glass in the 'duplicator'.

It sounds like your version is much more 'professional' in quality, since you can use a 'real' lense with it. Mine gives quite a large crop as well since the slide ends up so far from the focal 'plane'.

Any ideas for better quality ?

It doesn't seem to have a brand but I got it from Photo Continental for $149.00. Greenish box with Digital Duplicator and Made in Japan.

I have a slide duplicator also, T Mount (zoom model).

It is not really much good on the D70 because of the crop/enlargement factor. Unless the shot is at a distance, you are really only duplicating the centre of the image. So obviously the sections on the outer edges don't appear on the sensor at all.

The quality is quite good, but disappointing at the loss of image due to the 35mm/digital size factor.

These are the same people I bought my 500mm Mirror Tele from. Arrived exactly 1 week after payment from teh States. I was pretty impressed.
