What to get with $100Help needed. Santa paid me an early visit this year and kindly left me a D70, 18-70 kit lens and a 512Mb card. Apart from my F70 and 35-80 lens, that's it as far as my Nikon kit goes. My parents want to buy me something for Chrissie up to $100. My list of wants is large:
80-200 f2.8 for motor sports photography (just a bit too dear...) tripod & head for landscapes and seascapes (ditto) macro lens (see above) 77mm CPL 77mm UV filter Air rocket Spare battery Additional CF card Card reader Decent bag (back pack design) for day treks Possibly a Lowepro Slingshot or similar to wear in front of my backpack when bushwalking Unfortunately my budget is small... I've got 2 kids, so I won't be getting anything other than the gift from my parents any time soon. What do you more experienced members recommend I spend the $100 on? I've already found myself wishing I had a spare battery, but I'm now more diligent when it comes to charging before a shoot. I've also found myself wishing I had a bigger card. Your thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks Andrew
Andrew, not sexy and only $20 but you will need a rocket at some point. You also should get a card reader. After those two (which are really essentials) there isn't much left, but those would be my two firsts, the rocket because you will get a dust bunny, the card reader so as not to create additional wear on your expensive camera, doubly important on a budget.
i'd go the card. can't ever have enough storage
or have a combo: rocket blower battery card reader Hassy, Leica, Nikon, iPhone
Come follow the rabbit hole...
get the card........... and add some money for the air rocket........
Cheers ....bp....
Difference between a good street photographer and a great street photographer.... Removing objects that do not belong... happy for the comments, but .....Please DO NOT edit my image..... http://bigpix.smugmug.com Forever changing
Even not changing lens, dust bunnies are still your friend and the Rocket will blow them up sorry will blow them out. Why $100.00/ reasonable at $1000.00/ one more 0 and you have lot of fun. Birddog114

I use the fuzzy 24 -120 VR as a paperweight it is a lot heaver and been so soft it dosn't mark my desk the 70-300G for $100 is a good stater lens
ABG,
$100.00? Down payment for a D200? a decent lens? a SB800? Birddog114

Bring it the minimeet tomorrow; let's see if we can verify that it's soft, or else perhaps see if we can sharpen your skillset. Look at my shots from Newcastle a week or so back. I only had two lenses with me, and the 24-120VR was one of them. The images I shot have sharpness to spare. g.

although the Giotto air-rocket will help you out, eventually you will have to delve into the world of "wet-cleaning". Perhaps THIS may interest you ? I purchased one a few months ago and have never looked back ! Just an idea.... Short of buying the peripheral, mundane equipment to go along with your kit, with $100 you won't be cutting down your long list anytime soon. And I empathise with you as I am in the same boat Dave

ABG - rocket, card reader, and a card.

The sample he has which he bought in Japan on his last trip, perhaps it comes with Japanese manual, not in English All of the 24-120VR sold here are with English manuals and they are all good sample as with Gary, Stubbsy and few other to name. I can loan you a manual in English and perhaps it'll help Birddog114

Hey Loz, If you're serious about selling your 70-300G for $100, and the OP doesn't take you up on the offer, I might be interested I borrowed my mate's 70-300G last night, and while it certainly is a fantastically plastic bit of kit, it doesn't go too badly at all in the right sort of conditions and a bit of patience. I need a CHEAP, SMALL and LIGHTWEIGHT long zoom to take overseas with me, and I just can't justify the cost/size/weight of a 80-200 or 70-200VR right now
Star City Casino is far more better. and quick!!!!! Birddog114
