underwater pro pictures

Not a dslr question just a gerneral photography question.
My wifes quite intrested in getting a underwater photo taken of our baby daughter. A bit like this http://waterbaby.co.uk/.

Has anyone seen or know of anywhere in Melb or even Aus that does that kind of thing?

Wow Resnikov - I don't know of anyone who does this, but I know of a few people who would love to have shots like these if you ever find out..... may be a niche for someone to fill?????

No but there are cheap disposable underwater cameras. You could have a go at doing it yourself in a pool with a light from the top. Or you can buy quite cheapish underwater digital cameras (around $400 if I remember correctly), although I think the quality wouldn't be that good with either of them. It might be fun to do.

When I was still in highschool we had a Konica Minolta Under water camera, after my dad drowned his Prized Pentax SLR. It took some great shots underwater, infact I used it extensive in my art projects, taking shots in pools, the sea, creeks and lakes.

Resnikov the BBC did a similar sort of thing for one of their documentaries. It was the most amazing footage I had seen for a long time. The host was in a diving suit, with the large helmet and the baby swam next to him as he talked.
Later on they had a “making of” episode.
It was a rather complex setup. They ended up having to place material in the pool to get a “clean” backdrop, I think the ended up with blacks (velvet). The camera was of course in water proof housing, but it was the lighting that was the most complex. They needed to have lighting in the pool to light the face of the child. And looking at the picture on the website you mentioned, it is also the lighting on the child’s face that is also vital in making these shots work

So how do you go about getting this sort of shot?
Get some underwater housing for your camera.
Get some blacks
Get some lights
Get some scuba gear
or
Get someone to do it for you!

The documentary in question I believe was "The Human Body" series or something similarly named with a scientist with a curly mop of hair and a big moustache.... great series and well worthy watching...

Well, I have a housed camera (C5050, not my D50 yet), underwater strobes, scuba gear, can get my hands on a wide angle for the housing...
