A little bit f holiday advice

Postby rokkstar on Thu Dec 22, 2005 9:45 am

I think it was Sartre who said "Hell is being locked in a room with your family and friends".
I'd like to rephrase that: "Hell is being on holiday with your family"!!!

Yep, I have only 1 more day till we are back in Sydney after holidaying in Byron and the surrounding areas for a week and tempers are fraying. There have been numerous arguments, sulks, disagreements and lost of angry moments where i have been stopped from taking a photo because others didnt want to stop.

My advice friends, is do not ever, ever think you can get on with relatives in an enclosed space for an extended period of time!!!

On the upside, I've taken some good shots (they look good on the D70 screen) and the sun is shining. I'll post some when I get back. I can;t believe how mnay posts there have been since I've not been logged on - almost 3000!!!

Hope everyone is gearing up for chrissy. See y'all when I get back - whether I post from prison after murder is another thing!

Looking forward to your shots Matt, and glad to know your still alive, if somewhat traumatised by your horrific ordeal, I hope they aren't coming to Xmas and New years as well ?

Matt, you have my sympathy. Just lock yourself in the bathroom and take self portraits  How much longer are the relatives here?

Matt

I've been on holidays with two close and dear friends three times. First time they drove us in their car. The number of times I wanted to stop and take a pic and they got impatient I lost count. I also let great images fly buy rather than ask for the sake of harmony. Second and third times we went in my car. Still stopped to take pics less often than I liked, but when a good one came my way I sure as hell had the opportunity to get it since I was able to stop the car on the spot. Plus I think I've taught them a little about the beauty that's around them and rushing by.

Crazy that someone would come all the way from the UK to here and NOT be happy to stop and take in the sights (or was it all just smoke and portraits  )

Expose yourself a number of times in an obscene manner to your extended family. You will forevermore enjoy your holidays on your own terms...and isn't that what Xmas is all about?  :D  :D  :D  :D

The old saying 'you can pick your friends but you can't pick your relatives' has a lot of truth in it. We'll organize a 'bail' fund for you if you finally snap! Have a great Xmas.

Have a safe trip home Matt - looking forward to seeing your shots :)
Worst family trip we ever had was going out to Mt Isa without airconditioning in the middle of summer ..... in a VW beetle :), and towing a trailer. Surely it was better than that.....
actually come to think of it, was kind of fun..

well, I made it, I'm back and in one piece, and so is everyone else. My temper is well and truly at breaking point.

I now want some time alone to go through the pics, but I doubt very nmuch I'm going to get that opportunity.

interesting way to deal with

Postby christiand on Fri Dec 23, 2005 7:35 pm

Hi all,

I met a guy who went to Europe to see a lot of relatives.
He is actually from southern Bavaria, Germany.
He came up with the idea to have his relatives visit, but not his or anybody elses place.
They happily agreed to book acommodation, all at the same spot
in Italy (just around the corner so to speak).
They had a jolly good time.
(I guess everyone had their own space and therfore no friction)

Have a Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year.

You absolutely have to go to the minimeet. It's on at your local pub, whenever you want it to be. DSLR owners only. Tell me when, I'll be there. You have my sympathies mate, take it easy! 8)

Oh and as my late and great grandfather used to say, "Complaints of the Season"!
