Finally won something :)Hi all - a fair wack ago, I posted a shot of a portrait of a praying mantis http://www.dslrusers.net/viewtopic.php?t=10910&highlight=, and entered it into the Australian Entomology Conference Photography competition for 2005 ... I won and to top it off, got 3rd with my 2 mating flies
Am I spoilt or what ? Just wanted to share - and it was thanks to Birdy and selling me the 105 macro, and to all of you here on the forum for giving such valuable advice and comment on my shots. Thank you all so much Rel Dodging and burning are steps to take care of mistakes God made in establishing tonal relationships! -Ansel Adams

Gaffa Tape is like the FORCE... it has a Light side, a Dark side and it holds the universe together
Thanks Jonesy - prize the princely sum of $125 and printing of the images in the Australian Entomology Journal. Also, will be used in promotional material, and for whatever else they want pretty much For me, the buzz comes from getting a shot printed in my old field, and in a forum where I know some of my mentors (both in Australia and OS) will see the shot.
Thanks again Rel http://www.invertebrates2005.com/competition.htm Dodging and burning are steps to take care of mistakes God made in establishing tonal relationships! -Ansel Adams

Congratulations Narelle. It's great that you got the recognition you deserve. I really like your frogs, bats and now macros on this forum.
I'm just off to print some sailboard shots that someone wants to buy. It's not about the money, it's that someone appreciates your work enough to pay for it that's a real buzz. Cheers, John D3, D300, 14-24/2.8, 24-70/2.8, 85/1.4, 80-400VR, 18-200VR, 105/2.8 VR macro, Sigma 150/2.8 macro

Well done Rel... The best I've managed so far is publication in the school magazine and they didn't even give me a by-line... It must be great to have your pics published in a professional journal like that...
Cheers, John

Congrats on a great photo, I have had heaps of stuff published but never in a (serious) tech journal etc. Will have to think about that 105 macro lens.
