I don't know whether to laugh or be awed

Interesting read and reminds me of a lot of ghetto mods back in my lanning/case modding days. It is really amazing how many uses a pringles can, can have.

Edit : Just read a suggesting about using a microscope stage for macro shots... that is a pretty awesome idea and would give you very tight control on focusing...

I decided to laugh. It's a reasonable hack, but not a particularly dramatic one for me. After all, he's just created a very long fixed-extension tube with no transmission of electrical contacts. Now if he'd managed to make a bellows that had adjustable length I would be seriously impressed!
An interesting hack, but not the ground-breaking project that some people on the 'net have tried to make it out as... BTW, where he decided to use black paper inside to cut down on reflections, I would simply spray on blackboard paint: has worked well for me in similar projects in the past. Using a body cap as the basis of a lens mount is also the basis of the pin-hole "lens" project I discussed a while back.

It's interesting to note that his definition of a Pringles tube is quite different from the cardboard constructions we get sold in Aus...

Just saw the first word on the headline of that article and immediately closed it down.

You really need to post a warning when offensive language like that is in use. :)

The pringles we get here may be cardboard tubing but last I recall they did have metal bottoms. Perhaps if you managed to squeeze one tube inside the other you could get a variable length extension tube.

I chose to ignore the dull and boring title to read on, but I can see why you were offended.
