Twas the night before christmas..I couldn't post this in the humour section, but I wrote it for the forums just now, so here you are.
'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house the only creature stirring was as quite as a mouse; in stockings so silent, he set up with care, In hopes that Santa Claus soon would be there; The children were sprawled all over their beds, While the heat from the day baked their poor heads; I held my D50, and took off the lenscap, And hoped that my beer would not cause me to nap When outside of my house there arose such a clatter, I hoped that the possums had not torn off my gutter. But since a good pic might make me some cash, I went to the window and put on my flash. The moon was bright and let off a glow And lit up the scene that unfolded below. And thats when I saw something quite queer, a minature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer, With a fat old man, who was drinking a fanta, But I figured out quick it had to be Santa. faster than holdens driven by the insane, he shouted out loud, as if out of his brain; "Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen! On, Comet! on Cupid! on, Donder and Blitzen! To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall! And if you dont bloody make it, we're all gonna fall!" As dry leaves that in summer burst alight, they all of a sudden took to flight! So up to the house-top his poor reindeers flew, With a sleigh full of gear, and Santa Claus too. And then, after a moment I heard on my roof The prancing and pawing of each little hoof. I drew in my head, and knew I was lucky, For I knew the old man would be a sitting ducky. when he finally got in, I saw him more clear and knew I could sneak up on him from the rear. his bag full of goodies he had not yet relinquiesed, And I realised fast I should wait till he finished. His eyes -- how they sparkeled! his laughter sounded merry! I figured him for a drinker since his nose looked like a strawberry! Once he had placed all my presents with care, I stepped from the shadows, with a fixed stare. I figured he would see the light of the autofocus so I set it to manual, and had to refocus He had a broad face and a little round belly, That shook, when he laughed like a bowlful of jelly. He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf, And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself; Cause I knew that this shot, could set me for life and my spending habits would no longer be controlled by my wife. and then when he turned, I started to shoot, and finally he knew the truth of my pursuit. He spoke not a word, but went straight for the door, but too late realised I had just waxed the floor, He hit the wall and fell in a heap, And muttered out loud, "you should be asleep". After I filled a 2 gigabyte card I gave him a hand out into my yard. He got into his sleigh, and gave out a groan, "when I gave you a camera last year, I really should have known!" merry christmas everyone! Nicely done Nathan, Katie and I had a good old chuckle... but I was waiting for the pic of Santa at the end ?
That's a classic, well done.
My personal poetry skills never went much past: The boy stood on the burning deck A pocket full of crackers.... If I'm alone in a forest and my wife is not around to hear what I say, am I still wrong ??
Might one respectfully suggest that you not give up your day job?
Well done, and season's greetings to you. g.

A good way to start the day. Now I'm tucking my camera under my arm and going for a walk to see what I can see.

certainly not planning on quiting my day job, I know that my writing skills are not exceptional, but as I said, I was bored while wrapping presents, (sitting in front of my computer of course.)
Hope everyone is having a good day!
