What to do

What to do

Postby Zeeke on Fri Dec 30, 2005 2:08 pm

Being broke 99% of the time.. and instead of being half smart and getting a Nikon 80-400 VR, I got a Sigma 70-200 EX APO DG 2.8 Lens...probably because everyone says the 80-400 is too slow

Problem is.. im finding all my images fairly soft, probably because of going from using a borrowed Nikon 80-200 2.8 and expecting the same kind of quality, im just wondering if anyone else finds the same and if they could post some pictures at 100% crop showing the sharpness from there lens... I'll post some pictures soon but you to review, but im just wondering if i got a lemon (be a first)

Tim you can try the 80-400VR tommorow and then make up your own mind as to whether or not it is slow.

Tim - although it is possible to get a lemon with any make of lens I would point you to this thread:

Not to sound offensive, Zeeke, but it is possible that you just need some practice time with that lens.

Some lenses take a bit of getting used to before you can get incredibly sharpness from them.

Remember that the picture quality will often come down to the skill of the photographer, not the equipment they're using.

Tim, if you have any doubts, why not drop it into a service centre and have them look at it.

I did that with one of my lenses which after some time (4 years) started to produce 'soft' photos. They were quite happy to have a look at it for me and then provided a quote for the replacement of work parts.

Leigh, your probably right, i just find it weird that i can get pin point sharp images from Dug's 80-200 2.8 Nikon which is an oldie but a goodie.. and the sigma has soft feeling images all the way across the f range and even when mounted on a tripod and set on a timer to avoid shutter shake...

Lens is only a few weeks old

I'll be bringing my 70-200 to the M&G tomorrow.. so if anyone wants to have a play with it and let me know what they think id appreciate it
