Haven't seen the 18-200VR in shops yet, but haven't been looking at the D200 until today
Thinking of selling my D70 + kit lens and trading up.... Dopeler Effect: The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come at you rapidly.
Thanks guys. Digital City near Wynyard has sold a few of them, and is expecting more next week. Cost around $2500 for the D200 body.
Birdy, when do you expect the D200 + 18-200VR kit to be available? Dopeler Effect: The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come at you rapidly.
Here is an online deal from Digital City:

Hardly a deal for the body only.

True, but they still called it a 'deal' didn't they? HB
Seems they're cropping up everywhere then. I was told a few weeks ago by G&V Imaging on George St that it would be about $2500. No info on the lens yet - couldn't get over there today.

If you have a D70 or 70s for sale second hand let me know I have a mate looking for one with the kit lens.
We have a d200 on the shelf for $2,800 body only and it has sold already. What aperture is the 18 200 VR? When will they bring out an 18 + zoom f2.8 or better?
Saw your PM Dug - email sent.
Ouch. People seem to want it. The 18-200VR is a 3.5 to 5.6. Dpreview has a preview (heh) of it: http://www.dpreview.com/news/0511/05110103nikon18-200vr.asp Dopeler Effect: The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come at you rapidly.
I did not see that when I was in Sydney a few days ago... And back in Brisbane, I've only seen one at a shop...
Hi
If I were to order a D200 *soon*, how long would it likely take to come? I take it there are a fair few ordered by now. The big thing that concerns me (but I don't want to hassle Birddog until I am ready to buy) is Australian warranty, and whether I can purchase extended wty thru phototechnical as I did for my D70. Hopefully people that have, or will soon have their D200's can answer this. Cheers Adam. Share what you know, learn what you don't.

There is currently a body for fondling purposes only in The Camera house near Harris Scarfe in Adelaide.
Although James Place cameras assures me that there isn't one in Adelaide.. It's a lot bigger in my hands then the D70 is. It won't be as comfortable for me to use. I'm guessing that I'll learn to live with it... People put way too much rubbish in signature blocks.
What about the 18-200 VR?
My wife now has my D70 so I'm between cameras at the moment, but wanting the 18-200 so I can have the 18-70 kit for my D200 when I get it. So just wondering on availability time and guesstimate of price on thge 18-200 VR? Share what you know, learn what you don't.

Thanks for pointing this out! I might have to go for a walk down there on Saturday . I thought I might have to wait until Feb before a store might keep one aside for playing. Mark
OK, I've had a look, but can't find it. Who's ECS? I've been quoted $1340 in one place, and another said D200 + 18-200VR for $3700, but $1095 seems like a great price. Dopeler Effect: The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come at you rapidly.
Make sure you study the case of the Nikkor 18-200VR II prior to make your decision. Birddog114

I have had a good look but cannot find anything negative about the 18-200VR lens. Do you know something we don't? Does anyone know about these lenses yet? I've seen the Ken Rockwell review among others, all seems good... Would you consider the 18-200VR a "professional" lens? Share what you know, learn what you don't.

The only bad point I have seen mentioned so far is vignetting but this is from one image on the internet and I don't put much credibility at all on sample pics posted on the net. From other shots I have seen posted, it seems it will fill it's specification. I'll be happily purchasing it for the "all-in-one" occasions.
An extraction from other forum from Thom Hogan, I have few more to read and learn if you wish:

tasadam,
Another simple and easy solution: Buy and use it, if you're not happy with it then eBay, you may become a lens tester for us on this 18-200. Birddog114

Which brings me to another question - one that my wife has been wanting me to ask, after all, it is to be HER lens... on HER D70 (I'm "between" cameras at the moment) Birdy can you do this lens yet? Or at this stage is ECS the best bet? If ECS, maybe I'd be better to buy the D200 and 18-200 together from them? As for other info on pros and cons of the 18-200VR, I'd be happy to read all... tasadam,
If you're keen on the lens, don't need to read further, grab them and play. I don't want to have this lens on the list yet as: - Price is unstable due to the new product. - Mixed reports flow in all the time and I don't want to busy with something nonsense. Birddog114

It's a "toy" lens Birddog114
VNAF, My Beloved Country and Airspace
Bugger me... A toy lens and a non-pro lens from Nikon for over $1000... Hhmmm. Expensive hobby.
I liked the idea of this lens for her so she didn't have to change lenses all the time. If this lens is not going to do it for me (her), I think I'll start a new topic on "pro" lens choices. Too far off topic for D200 availability. Thank you very much for your advice & opinions. Adam. Share what you know, learn what you don't.

D200Hi Guys
I am new here, just wanted to say I bought my D200 from photo buff, online, originally saw his site on ebay, Not being into ebay I rang this guy as he sold COD from melbourne, ( I am in Qld) he was very helpfull and I bought all my gear from him,, and have b een happy,,, only reason I bought this way, was I didnt want to be put on a waiting list for the camera, as I was told its pretty long list,, You can see his stock on addy below, then just send an email as I did, not sure if this will help anyone, but worth a try, Suzanne http://stores.ebay.com.au/photo-buff_Di ... idZ2QQtZkm Nikon D200, 24-120mm VR, 70-300 ED, SB800 flash, Manfrotto tripod,
bindiblue,
Welcome! Yes, the D200 is available with many eBay sellers but they're not Maxwell/ Nikon stock and the warranty is another issue if something goes wrong with the D200, Maxwell won't look after the grey import DSLR body unless you agree to pay for the repair or recifying any problems, on the other side the D200 can be returned to seller for warranty and they will send it back to its original. As you aware, D200 has mixed of reports with its faults & problems, therefore buying grey imported D200 is another try of your luck. Birddog114

Bindiblue,
Seeing your post about the D200 makes me envious but I also agree with Thanh (Birddog 114) that you take a risk when buying grey import models. I've been waiting 3+ months for a Maxwell's/Nikon version but at least I'll be getting one that has been checked/tested and with a Maxwell's warranty. Good luck with your new 'toy'. Cheers Michael
i had absolutely no luck buying one anywhere locally and earlier last month i finally got mine from b&h with a kit lens and shipped to my california, usa mailing address as they wont ship d200 outside usa. i even tried to buy one from ingram micro in singapore on my last 2 trips to singapore earlier this year, they had no stock. the price was sweet but no stock, had more than few weeks wait and cash payment. some shops in singapore have d200 in stock but it's direct import, no local warranty. funny enough back in january this year, i saw an advertisement in the local singapore newspaper and they had lowerpro bag free with d200.
anyways, i got one and still trying to figure out it out sumit
