My photo GalleryHi Guys.
Well thanks to the advice in this forum I've installed Gallery 2 and uploaded quite a few shots... (running out of disk space on my server though!) Anyway, if you don't mind I'd like your opinion on a couple of things. Firstly how would you arrange the layout of the albums? Secondly, seeing as I'm more of a landscape person and would like to sell my landscape shots, would it look more professional if I removed the other albums and just have landscapes? Feel free to leave any comments on the photos as well. http://owen.ausphotos.com Cheers, Owen.
You have some beautifully crafted landscape work that I agree with you should feature more in your work.
The best comment I can offer is a link to the website of Scott Munchenberg at Mooloolaba on the Sunshine coast. His landscapes and the way he has set his site out might give some suggestions. Hope it helps Check out how he has his gallery set out http://www.scottmunchenberg.com.au/ cheers marco
Looks great Owen. You have done something that I have been stuggling with.
I have tried to set up gallery, and failed. I know nothing about this kind of thing. I installed fetch (ftp program for mac), in order to do the authenticate part of the installer. I upload the login.txt file they create for me into the diectory that contains main.php and they can never find the file... If you feel I am highjacking your thread, please just PM me your answer. In fact, anyone who wants to reply can PM me, thanks all. HB
Hi Heath. Have you tried the latest version of the installer? This was my first time doing anything like this so all I did was follow the instructions. Have you made sure that your website has the required version of PHP?
Feel free to ask any questions in here, I don't mind at all.
Owen, I feel that if you want to sell your landscapes then your website should be dedicated to landscape photography. If you want to host other images on the site then maybe give them another URL that is connected with your site.
Also it is just a preference of mine, but I feel that black (or a dark colour) is the best colour as a background to show of your pictures. Mal
I've got a camera, it's black. I've got some lens, they are black as well.
if you go into the control panel of your website, or even contact whoever is hosting your site, and make sure you have at least PHP version 4.1 PHP is something on the server that processes .php files - that's the best I can describe it as I'm not entirely sure myself.
Thanks Mal, that is the feeling I had as well. I have been trying to work out how to configure the colours and stuff, will have to play more with it. Thanks for the feedback.
Dreamhost. Just noticed on its homepage it says - PHP 5 is alive! HB
Should be fine. So you browse to the install directory and start the installer, it gives you a text file to save and you upload it to the main folder? Then it doesn't recognise it, correct? It uses a random string each time, I'm assuming you're not using an old file when you do it?
No, I am aware of the new code issue. Thanks for pointing it out though. I know it is something like that that I have forgotten.
HB
I've changed the site a little bit, changed the colours and removed some photos... any better?

heath: I moved my stuff to dreamhost the other week and installed gallery 2 there.
After I finished doing it, I was looking around my web control panel seeing what goodies were there and found that they have a one click install of gallery 2. I didnt try this, having done it manually but the one click install my just do the biz for you. you get to this by going into goodies and then one click installs. would appear to do the whole shooting match at the click of a button. Might be worth a try. Steve check out my image gallery @
