Lack of Color

has anyone noticed the lack of color and contrast in their images when uploading to smugmug and comparing then to the originals or is it just me being very critical of how something shoud look when processed......

Just out of curiosity, I compared one of the landscapes that I just uploaded with the JPG as displayed by Windows Explorer and the colours and contrast look identical to me...

I have noticed differences in the past, but only when I've forgotten to convert to sRGB before saving the JPG...

Thanks Leek ......... I have always just left the image as RGB and not had any difference in the passed...... but of late I have noticed the change, so I will try with converting to sRGB and see if that helps.........

Bernie - I've never had problems. I always convert to sRGB before uploading. Could that be the cause eg you're in adobeRGB?

Compared to the original both of these images lack saturation and contrast. The RGB image is closer to the original than the sRGB but still lacks saturation and contrast. The sRGB image has lightened up overall gone a little red and lacks the punch of the original which gave the shot its mood......... anyway I had lunch and a few beers at a pub a bit further down......

On my monitor, the second image (sRGB) is more saturated and has slightly blacker blacks and is more contrasty. The blue window frames are more saturated as is the green and gold in the leaves.

And colour profiling was meant to make life easier

Just that there is a big difference between the original and the uploaded image.......... would you mind if I sent you the original and you can compare

THIS may be some interesting reading for you....

By the sounds of things, it is a sRGB issue, along with the possibility of the size photo you are using from SmugMug.

If you use any size other than the "original size", it seems to play with the image...

let us know how you get on...

Thank you guys, some very interesting reading.......... I am about to reset my gamma and luminance settings and hopefully this will sort some of the colour difference and then re test.........

Re-profiled my screens today changing the lumunance, white point, and gamma......the images uploadered to smugmug look a lot better and closer to the originals but still not 100%.

On the new screen profile I have done a few test prints....... printing using RGB and made paper profile the print is a bit dark compared to the screen image......... printing an image with a sRGB colour space, using the same paper profile, the colours are just flat and lack brightness or saturation, and not near the screen image

Tomorrow I will be remaking my photo stock profile using the new screen profile to see if this changes the quality of the prints and to see if I can get closer to what I see on screen......

If I get the same result, prints are a bit dark, I will then edit the paper profile to match what I have on screen....... and this does take a lot of time to get right, as it has to be done for each paper profile so they all will match on different paper stocks

and computers were made to make our life easy.........':lol:'
